Abstract/Summary:
This study used a cross sectional survey design to investigate students' perceptions of learning effectiveness of courses delivered in the one-way video two-way audio satellite television mode of instruction. The instruction was delivered using live television transmission from the DOD Satellite Education Network, Fort Lee, Virginia. The research questions explored the perception of course effectiveness as measured by the seven subscales of the Telecourse Evaluation Questionnaire (TEQ). In addition, each of the subscales was investigated in relation to perceptions of effectiveness on course delivery elements. An additional subscale was examined by modifying the TEQ to quantify some qualitative statements to measure perceptions of overall course effectiveness. Finally, perceptions of course effectiveness were correlated with course length to ascertain if course length affected perceptions of course effectiveness. Chapter two includes a review of the literature related to technology in distance learning, student attitudes, theories that relate to perceptions, and perceptions of learning effectiveness.; Findings indicate that students in this study perceived the courses delivered over the one-way video two-way audio Satellite Education Network to be effective. A statistically significant difference was found between two courses measured by overall subscale means for courses. There was no statistically significant difference found in students, perceptions of course effectiveness in relation to course length.; Conclusions drawn from this study may be generalized in a limited way to areas other than similar organizations using this kind of technology. The results of this study however, have implications for distance education students, instructors, administrators and educational institutions providing one-way video two-way audio interactive education in the federal government and the private sector.
