Abstract/Summary:
Computer interactive technology has been widely used on the web. Surfing on the Internet has become a major activity in daily life and plays an important role in electronic commerce. Since the Internet became an important communication medium, traditional ways of exchanging information have been challenged. As the technology advances, the purpose of the Web has gone beyond what it was initially designed for. Moreover, the invention of web technologies has pushed the interactive technology on the Web even further.; To explore these issues, we developed a web based decision support system. This web program makes use of the most current web technologies to help cancer patients make treatment decisions. This study then evaluated its effects on user interface, and learning. A factorial experiment was conducted to study three web interface features: hyperlink, multimedia control panel, and video transcription. Results indicated that hyperlinks have positive effects on user satisfaction, and learning. Unexpectedly, video transcriptions have negative effects on user satisfaction. This research not only provides a new direction for developing a web based decision support system but also contributes to the optimization of web interfaces and better understanding of interface design on the web.
