Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study is to attempt to determine the purposes for which companies are developing web sites (e.g., to provide B2B or B2C transactions, information and/or to simply have an Internet presence), and of these, which purpose has the most significant need for having requirements defined. Once the most significant purpose is identified, the study then focuses on gathering the needed information for creating a requirements document for this type of web site.; This study involved descriptive research using both quantitative and qualitative methods. A priority assessment study was conducted to collect quantitative data on the purpose behind why companies are developing web sites. This assessment identified the development of web sites with B2B applications as a priority for further research. After the priority assessment study was conducted, both qualitative and quantitative data were collected to determine those requirements that should be included in a requirements document when developing a web site for B2B purposes.; Quantitative data was collected using a Likert scale of 1 to 5. Frequency distribution, mean score, and standard deviation were calculated to determine the distribution frequencies and central tendency of the rating. The participants' written comments to their ratings on the Likert scale provided qualitative data that was used to substantiate the quantitative data collected.; The findings resulted in the development of a template that companies can use as a guide when initiating the development of a requirements document for the development of a B2B web site application.
