Abstract/Summary:
In this study, the researcher completed research to inform the writing of a therapeutic children's book to be used with young children between the ages of two and six who have experienced or been exposed to a traumatic event. The researcher gathered information from research literature, and also surveyed mental health professionals and literature experts to guide the creation of the first draft of the book. Then, the writer sought feedback and professional opinion on this first draft from the same mental health professional and literature expert mental health professionals through survey and a phone interview. The therapeutic book was then revised to reflect the feedback from the mental health professionals and literature experts. The final product of the research is unique and well-informed tool to be used in the treatment of young children between the ages of two and six who have experienced or been exposed to a traumatic event. This book is designed to help the traumatized children to better understand the experience of symptoms of Post-traumatic stress disorder as defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, Fifth Edition (DSM-5).
