Abstract/Summary:
Four case studies of automation projects are reported. Using a qualitative research paradigm, a model of automation projects is developed which relates attributes of the automation project to the likelihood of project success The attributes used in the model are for areas such as: the automation system; the people involved in the origination, implementation, and operation of automation device; and the organization which will operate the automation device. The model is designed to be used as a proactive tool to identify potential roadblocks and to improve the likelihood of a successful implementation of the project.
