Abstract/Summary:
he purpose of this study was (1) to develop a large representative data base of standing and dynamic insulation values for different types of cold weather clothing ensembles, (2) to determine the percent and absolute change in insulation due to walking, and (3) to develop regression equations for predicting standing insulation, dynamic insulation, and the change in insulation due to walking from clothing factors such as the amount of total body surface area covered by clothing, clothing air volume, opening areas, ensemble weight, and the number and thickness of garment layers on the torso, arms, thighs, and calves.
