| A new nonparametric charting scheme based on order statistics is presented. The calculations of the control limits are simplified for certain conditions. The ARL of the proposed control chart is compared to the X¯ chart for data which comes from four different distributions (normal, uniform, two parameter exponential, and double exponential distributions). The performance of the proposed chart is also investigated by varying the various number of samples taken, sample sizes, and variances. The proposed control chart is more efficient than the X¯ control chart to detect small shifts in the presence of a light tail distribution and small sifts. The same findings are discovered in the presence of a heavy tailed distribution and large shifts. However, the X¯ chart is preferred over the OS control chart when the distribution is normal or heavily skewed. |
