Search for supersymmetric top quarks in the decay of the standard model top quark based on DO Run IB data

Abstract/Summary:
This dissertation reports a supersymmetry search based on a DØ Run IB data sample with four or more jets and large missing transverse energy. This signal is expected from the decay of the top quark into top squark, which subsequently decays to charm and LSP. Tevatron Run IB (1993–1995) data of pp¯ collision at center of mass energy 1.8 TeV is used. This analysis corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 81 pb −1 collected by the DØ detector. We use Monte Carlo samples to estimate physics backgrounds and use real data to estimate the QCD background. No excess of data over background is found. We use an equal probability test to set limits on the SUSY parameter space based on a model-independent strategy.
