Abstract/Summary:
There is an inherent tension between the individual and the group. To some degree we are always managing this tension by holding tighter to our own norms---attitudes, values, and beliefs---or by adopting the norms of the group. This same phenomenon exists in organizations as employees manage the tension between their own norms and the norms of the organization. The degree to which employees maintain their own norms and adopt or reject the norms of the organization impacts their experiences within the organization. The following study seeks to better understand this impact.
