Abstract/Summary:
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems can have a very positive influence on the management and integration of widely diverse administrative functions including disbursements, supplies and inventories, personnel, travel, and customer information. Despite the benefits of successfully implementing an ERP system from sharing data between departments to improving response time to customers, many organizations fail to understand the potential disruption the implementation of the system can cause employees.; In response, this case study investigated the impact of an ERP implementation at Allied Aerospace Corporation, a medium-sized aerospace manufacturing company. Specifically, the research looked at the impact on employee performance, job satisfaction, and the business processes in the Customer Service Department. The results showed employees experienced a decrease in their ability to perform their jobs, resulting in a corresponding lack of motivation and job satisfaction. During the process to determine a information technology solution to business problems, managers should organize an implementation team and include employees that might be impacted the most, early in the decision making process.; In today's world of technology, as managers introduce frequent changes and continue to require access to vast amounts of data upon which to base important decisions, it is essential that the planning go beyond the technology and include specific initiatives to minimize potential negative impacts on employees. If this is not accomplished, the new system will fail to deliver the efficiencies needed for success in a global economy.
