Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this paper will be to discuss the current climate of leadership development and introduce to the literature a developmental practice currently being used by many organizations: theatrical improvisation.;In order to accomplish the aims of this work, interviews were conducted with organizations that are currently using theatrical improvisation techniques to support efforts in leadership development. The results of this study indicate that consultants using theatrical-based improvisation use similar processes and offer similar types of services to traditional leadership development consultants. They also offer the ability to develop the adaptability of leaders by establishing a positive framework to the way an organization approaches communication and collaboration, building confidence and self-efficacy within an organization's leaders as well as an environment of trust and safety.
