Abstract/Summary:
The following dissertation presents a program design for a new program, a Multi-Faceted Emotional Wellness Program (MFEWP) that will incorporate emotional wellness and resiliency for LGBT youth experiencing psychological distress. The background demonstrates the need for a new program to develop a specialized psychoeducational modality program by examining the various issues that LGBT youth experience. The MFEWP will add to existing programs and the literature by designing an effective program that promotes emotional wellness among LGBT youth. This program will provide valuable resources and a clinical protocol to assist LGBT youth to achieve emotional wellness and resiliency, and the ability to gain insight into the LGBT lifestyle. The overall goal is to reduce depression, anxiety, and suicidality; and to promote ones learning of how to use resilience in moving forward with a pro-social life. The protocol is a session-by-session psychoeducational design, along with a potential methodology for developing the MFEWP and measuring the overall effectiveness. Overall, the MFEWP will integrate a Humanistic Theoretical Approach and the Wheel of Wellness Model for LGBT youth to address emotional distress and bolster resiliency. Lastly, a discussion of possibilities, limitations, and implications for future research is included.;Keywords: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, LGBT, Q, youth, emotional wellness, well-being, resilience, resiliency, humanistic, and wellness model.
