Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this Narrative Inquiry study is to present the story, experience, and journey of two persons through the narrative based therapeutic process in the context of an inpatient 12-step based drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility. Narrative Inquiry was utilized to understand the experience of this process from the client's perspective. The researcher utilized two previous clients from an addiction treatment facility where she practiced Narrative therapy that have since graduated the treatment facility and ceased therapy. The participants experience of an inpatient based 12-step treatment program concurrently experienced while partaking in Narrative based therapy was captured in this study through a series of interviews and artistic expression. The therapist's perspective was also given attention throughout this process by way of journaling. Perceived congruencies and incongruences witnessed by the researcher between the two phenomena of Narrative therapy and the 12-step treatment based program was explored and two participants stories will be woven together along with the researchers experience to encapsulate the essence of this phenomena under investigation.
