Abstract/Summary:
The process of power network design in industrial and commercial buildings is complex and time consuming. The design procedure contains several steps. It starts with data collection followed by selection of the conductors and protection devices. The process ends with the coordination of the protection devices chosen. The number of power system elements and their complexity makes it virtually impossible to examine all the possible alternatives and to choose the most optimal solution in terms of safety, reliability and cost. The process of designing industrial and commercial power systems was broken into autonomous parts which when connected in one software package creates a powerful tool. This dissertation presents a software-based approach that executes the complete, automatic design of a power distribution network.
