Abstract/Summary:
This dissertation addresses the performance evaluation of data services in mobile Worldwide lnteroperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) networks. It focuses on the evaluation of data services such as web browsing and FTP, and will address the end user's perception of quality of service of such data services.;A novel network evaluation and optimization methodology that was developed by analyzing drive test data is presented. The developed methodology is a five step process and each step addresses a fundamental aspect of the network, such as coverage, interference, and missing neighbors.;A set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) was extracted and implemented into the developed methodology. The KPIs are used to monitor the mobile WiMAX network performance. Based on the KPIs, a report on network failures according to their geographical locations across the network is generated.;Proper course of action is then presented to remedy network failures and to improve the quality of service (QoS) of the network. Based on the suggested course of action, network operators may perform changes of the network parameters to improve the performance of the network and boost customer satisfaction.;The developed methodology was implemented in a data post processing solution called g-station. The implementation was done to simplify and automate the optimization process.
