Abstract/Summary:
The Department of Codes and Building Safety (DCBS) administers a series of codes directing the use and safety of structures in Nashville, TN. For years, the general feeling by leaders was that nothing was ever done or followed up on unless several calls were made, ultimately to an elected official, which led to languishing violations in neighborhoods. Utilizing the NOTICE 2 Program, the study sought to decrease the number of days a violation remained open and to increase resident involvement and satisfaction in neighborhoods across the city. The design for the study included quantitative and qualitative research methods. The program did not decrease the number of days violations remained open, however there were statistically significant findings for satisfaction and participation.
