This project is a literature review and theoretical analysis of D. W. Winnicott's (1945, 1978, 1992a, 1992b, 1996, 2005) main theoretical contributions to object relations theory, his understanding of object loss, and how these contributions add to the understanding of psychological transformation in the writings of John of the Cross (Kavanaugh & Rodriguez, 1991). D. W. Winnicott's theoretical contributions will be used to explore psychological transformation focusing on object loss in the dark night of the soul .
