Abstract/Summary:
Much of what has been written about Anne Boleyn, the second wife of Henry VIII, is contradictory and based on conjecture rather than actual historical evidence. Representations of England's most notorious queen invariably polarize into two archetypes: the deformed, witch-like adulteress or the benevolent Protestant martyr. Neither of these characterizations is entirely accurate, and this dissertation offers a more balanced examination of Queen Anne's life, grounded in primary source material as well as historical and scholarly research, than has been previously attempted.
