Abstract/Summary:
The Church recognizes that the advances in technology and communications provide an opportunity for evangelization, particularly of young people. Latino college-educated young professionals, a community that has been ignored, form an ideal demographic to benefit from, and bring value to, an online community.;Often described as living in two worlds with the possibility of belonging to neither, the bilingual, bicultural, Latino young adults are profoundly shaped by culture, language, and particular ways of relating. With the Latino theological construction of accompaniment as a starting point and Benedict XVI's understanding of friendship in a cyber age as the theological basis, this study created an online community within which preaching occurs.;Facebook was chosen as the medium by which to reach the Latino young adults and to provide a venue for preaching within a community. The research addresses the design, creation, and feedback of the participants. Project assessment focuses on the areas of technology, theology, ministry, preaching, and contributions to the fields of homiletics and Latino theologies. In effect, the Facebook site developed for this preaching project is a virtual locus theologicus, informing preaching to communities of Latino young adults.
