Mega infrastructure projects(MIP)are large-scale public projects which provide fundamental public services for social production, economic development, and daily life, and form the backbone of modern societies.MIPs often involve huge investment, long life-cycle,complex uncertainties, and broad stakeholders and exert far-reaching impacts on ecological environment. With the increasing openness, diversification, and emerging new technology, the management of MIPs is facing a series of problems and unprecedented challenges. It is urgent to find a new roadmap that promotes MIP's sustainable development with human, social, and the natural environment.Megaproject social responsibility(MSR)refers to “the policies and practices of the stakeholders through the whole project life cycle that reflect responsibilities for the well-being of the wider society”.The deficiency of MSR,such as frequent quality problems, accidents, environmental pollution and conflict with the community, etc.,has led serious social problems which beyond the projects themselves. In the global context of sustainable development,China's MIPs are currently standing at a special and crucial period with strategic opportunities, environmental sensitivity and value reconstruction.MSR has become one of the key factors for MIPs' sustainable development.Compared with the common engineering,MIPs have a long life-cycle and numerous stakeholders.Their conflicts are particularly prominent, such as participant goal conflict, public resource consumption and environmental protection conflicts, and stakeholder interest conflicts. This leads to have significant differences between MIPs and common projects including multidimensional complexity and cross interaction in social responsibility. To date, scholars in MSR have been carried out valuable research works. However, these existing literature often focuses a single organizational level(contractor),a single stage(construction phase),and limited topics(environmental, safety, and health). There is no systematic, holistic studies which cover various stages of a life-cycle,involve different stakeholders, and consider different dimensions of social responsibility. The fragmented research cannot be adapt to the reality of the needs of MIP management. Therefore, this study aims to integrate MIP management theory, stakeholder theory, and social responsibility theory in order to provide theoretical support for MSR and global sustainable development as well as policy recommendations. This study is comprised of four major parts:First, the research evolution of knowledge structure of MSR.Based on scientific metrology, this study uses the literature on MSR from Web of Science core database as the sample. The analysis of keyword co-occurrence and document co-citation is used to draw topic network and knowledge network. The results show that the concern on MSR is rapidly heating up as one of the key topics of global sustainable development.MIPs' resilience and evaluation system are important research themes.PMBOK and stakeholder theory is the basic theories of MSR.Second,an indicator system for evaluating MSR.Based on the comprehensive three-dimensional framework which simultaneously includes project life-cycle dynamism, stakeholder heterogeneity, and social responsibility interactivity, this study develops an indicator system for the integrated appraisal of MSR by employing a structured methodology and a quantitative analysis model(AHP).The system includes indicators from both organizational level and project level and maps them in specific phase of the life cycle of MIPs offers a novel typology to organize the attributes of MSR and to balance the interests of every party.Third, the driving factors and coupling mechanism of MSR.Base on the survey of MIPs,this study identifies and empirically tests the internal and external driving factors and coupling mechanism of MSR.The analysis of mediating effect, moderated mediating effect, and moderated moderating effect shows that CEO narcissism influence MSR through CSR cognition and public concern, regulatory pressure, and competitive intensity can moderate this relationship. The results also demostated the coupling mechanism among government, corporations, media, and the pubic. The main innovations of this article are as follows: First, this study employs scientific metrology method to depict research fronts and intellectual bases of MSR into visual form of network. It comprehensively provides a clear picture of the hot spots and evolution path and systematicly reveal the status and trends of MSR research from the perspective of scientific history.Second, the developed indicator system reflects the current aspirations and claims from different MSR stakeholders. The results provide an alternative solution to the substantive improvement of MSR management.Third, this study integrates insititutional theory, stakeholder theory and motivation theory to construct a theoretical model on MSR's driving facters and the coupling mechanism. The empirical results of a questionnaire survey reveal the influence of organizational leader' personal psychological traits,as well as cognitive and the interactions with social contextual factors on the fulfillment of social responsibility. At the same time, the results also find out the governement' leader effect in fulfillment of the MSR,as well as the the baton coupling mechanism amog the participants of MIPs.
