Corporate social responsibility is expectations and requirements of enterprises with the development of economy and society in a certain stage. It requires enterprises not only to create profits for shareholders, but also take the responsibility for employees, customers, government, community, environment and other stakeholders. As an important fundamental enterprise, China National Petroleum Corporation (The following abbreviation as CNPC) has a great effect upon the development of national economy and the people’s livelihood. Apart from the economical responsibilities, it should also protect national energy security, ensure stable supply of oil and gas, promote and stimulate local economic development. Therefore, it is essential to study the corporate social responsibility of CNPC. The purpose of this study is to provide advice and resource to enhance CNPC’s social responsibility through evaluating and analyzing its performance.This paper first introduced the concepts, basic theories evolution and dimension of corporate social responsibility based on domestic and international current study, and defined the corporate social responsibility and stakeholder. Secondly, it divided the contents of CNPC’s social responsibility into seven parts according to stakeholder theory, they are shareholders responsibility, employees responsibility, business partners responsibility, consumers responsibility, government responsibility, community responsibility and environmental responsibility. At the same time, on the basis of expert investigation and analytic hierarchy process, the paper set up an assessment dimension of CNPC. Thirdly, it elaborated the contents and practice of CNPC’s social responsibility and analyzed the problem of CNPC’s social responsibility according to the assessment dimension and CNPC’s corporate social responsibility report. Finally, this paper put forward some suggestions which aimed to promote the CNPC’s social responsibility mainly from the enterprise itself, government and society.
