Reconfigurable antennas have recently attracted a lot of attention in the research community due to the fast developing of communication systems,which require the switching between multiple operating bands,polarization,and radiation directions.In this thesis,we focus on the design of multiple electromagnetic reconfigurable antennas.We will present different design methods depending on the application requirements such as single port,dual-port,and multi-port antenna systems.The thesis consists of three main parts.First,we present results on the reconfigurable antenna for single port systems.In particular,we focus on the design of single port ultra wideband reconfigurable antennas,including a monopole antenna and a frequency reconfigurable filter.Furthermore,we investigate the mutual combination of frequency and polarization reconfigurable features of single port antennas.The proposed design has two frequency working modes of single band and dual-band,and two polarization modes of linear and circular polarization.Second,we study reconfigurable antennas with dual-port antenna system.In order to meet the requirements for the base stations of 4G communication system,we propose a dual-port polarization reconfigurable antenna.The design includes the wideband patch antenna and the wideband balanced feeding network.Last,we present a reconfigurable antenna for multi-port antenna systems for 5G mobile applications.The antenna has a 3D reconfigurable radiation pattern,which highly improves the spatial coverage without increasing the number of array elements.The design is realized by combining a slot patch antenna with a dipole antenna,and the dynamic control of the multiple input signals.
