As senior high school education becomes fully universal in China,the "average poverty" effect in mathematics education emerges,with a "broad but shallow" appearance,and characterized by increasingly severe polarization across students.This effect,together with the substantial vacancy of gifted education in mathematics,creates a large gap between the levels of mathematics of senior high school graduates and what colleges require of them.Hence it gets more and more interesting to find a way to break through the current monotonous situation where the gifted are trained segregatedly and to provide training as part of on-campus routine education to the gifted that make up the top 35-40% of the student body.Gifted education of senior high school mathematics poses two foremost challenges.One is to determine its orientation,which includes its basic standards,objectives and principles.The other is to establish its mathematical standards.Educational mathematics,by its characteric of "adapting mathematics for education",is born to tackle these challenges.In response to the need of gifted education of senior high school mathematics in the condition of universal education,drawing upon experience and lessons both domestic and abroad,under the guidance of educational mathematics,and bound tightly to the thread of mathematics as an educational task,this research proposes an idea of "general mathematics",tries to establish the theory and operation of gifted education of senior high school mathematics,and conducts empirical studies accordingly.To sum up,this paper covers the following topics:Firstly,it proposes to leverage the ideas of educational mathematics to guide gifted education of senior high school mathematics.By examining mathematics as an educational task from the view of facilitating implementation of educational tasks,it proposes an idea of "general mathematics",attempts to set up mathematical standards of gifted education of senior high school mathematics,provides a teaching design of the elementary calculus course system,and proposes to restructure the microstructure of knowledge taught in classroom.Secondly,on the basis of the first topic,it tries to build a gifted educational model of senior high school mathematics,under the guidance of educational mathematics,and with a mathematical eye,reexamining mathematics courses,organizational forms of teaching,teaching methods,cultivation of non-intellectual factors and so on.Thirdly,it formulates feasible operating methods on gifted education of senior high school mathematics,trying to provide a complete solution that covers mathematics courses,types of mathematical lessons,teaching models,seminars,thesis writing and culture of mathematics,and orchestrating relevant educational and teaching cases.Among the operating methods are problem-based lessons on mathematical concepts guided by a balanced view,"Experiment-Explore-Guide" teaching models,new ways of student seating arrangement,as well as introducing seminars and thesis writing into the senior high school stage.Corresponding empirical studies are also included.In conclusion,in response to the deficiencies of current gifted education of senior high school mathematics,under the guidance of educational mathematics,and through the examination on mathematics,this research tries to systematically establish the theory,design and operation of gifted education of senior high school mathematics,and preliminarily proves their effectiveness through investigation.Practice has proven that this research helps to address the practical problem where gifted education of senior high school mathematics is vacant,thus enabling students to well meet what colleges require of them in mathematics in terms of knowledge,literacy,learning ability,and research competence after three years studying mathematics in their senior high schools,therefore laying a solid foundation of mathematics for them to develop comprehensively and sustainably.
