Localization is the key to the development of Confucius Institutes in Africa,and the cultivation of native Chinese language teachers is the key to the development of Confucius Institutes.However,whatever the way to localize Confucius Institutes in Africa or the training of African teachers of TCFL is,it must agree to the local political and economic conditions,social and cultural traditions,educational policies and other factors.Based on the above understandings,this study aims to promote the development of Confucius Institutes in Africa and enhance its ability of indigenous talents cultivation as well as capacity for sustainable development.By presenting relative data,this study pictures the achievements,development characteristics and challenges now facing the Confucius Institutes in Africa in the global context.Based on the organization theory,it also discusses intermediately the internal and external factors that affect the development of Confucius Institutes in Africa.At last,this study discusses the practical path of cultivating African indigenous teachers of TCFL through in-depth analysis of a typical Confucius Institutes in Kenya and the development of an African Chinese language teacher at Nairobi University.The study shows that at the macro level,the scale of Confucius Institutes in Africa has increased rapidly,and the development mode has been continuously innovative,but it also faces the challenge of insufficient supply of teachers and unsatisfying teaching quality.How to further obtain the wide recognition and win support of the government and the local people,and to promote the Chinese language into the local educational curriculum system of the host country still poses a great challenge to the Confucius Institutes in Africa.Intermediately speaking,Confucius Institutes in Africa have made great efforts to thecultivation of indigenous teachers of TCFL,yet the local economic situation,social culture,language and educational policy have also generated more demands for Confucius Institutes in terms of curriculum,teaching content,education form and level.Further micro-analysis reveals that,influenced by the local educational environment,the growth of indigenous teachers of TCFL is faced with multiple difficulties from language learning,job hunting to professional development.How to develop locally and efficiently cultivate the indigenous teachers of TCFL will be one of the important agendas for Confucius Institutes in Africa.The development of Confucius Institutes in Africa and the training of African teachers of TCFL is a systematic process.Considering the strategic purpose and long-term sustainable development goals,Confucius Institutes are bound to shift from passive adaptive development mode to active reform development track.By introducing the Chinese language into the local primary and secondary school curriculum system and localizing the education system of training teachers of TCFL as well as quality assurance system,the African Confucius Institutes can not only gain the popularity among the local people,but also can win a good reputation as the learning center of the Chinese language and culture.In view of the complexity of the development of Confucius Institutes in Africa and the training of teachers of TCFL,there is a long way to go.
