“Meaningful utterance and always natural”,the literature of the Two Jin Dynasties represents the highest achievement of the time.While it enjoys the like status held by song poetry of Zhou Dynasty,Han fu,Tang poetry,Song ci,Yuan qu,and novels of Ming and Qing,it is regarded as the “generational literature” in the Chinese literature history.The articles in the Two Jin Dynasties are both exquisite in form and pure in speculation,which is not only the inevitable product of this special era,but also an inseparable part of the development of Neo-Taoism thought of literati in the Two Jin Dynasties.The articles and the literati of the Jin Dynasty have a wide and profound influence on those of later generations.Taking the articles of the Two Jin Dynasties as the research object,focusing on the language and writing style of the Two Jin Dynasties,in the dimensions of literature,thought and aesthetics to investigate,in an effort to observe the articles to comprehend the thought and aesthetic of the literati in the Two Jin Dynasties,this paper is meant to clarify the important position and far-reaching significance of the articles in the history of Chinese literature and thought.The main contents of this paper are as follows:The first chapter discusses the beginning thought of the Jin literature.This part starts from the background of the separation of the Chinese scholars in the changing of Wei and Jin Dynasties,focusing on the articles of the seven sages of bamboo forests,especially Ruan Ji,Ji Kang and Xiang Xiu,On the analysis of their articles to reveal the distress and resistance behind their self-indulgence and then to sum up the literati's swerve of thoughts in that period.The second chapter examines the variation in the form of the articlesin the Western Jin Dynasty.This part starts from the background of the party struggle and the change of the intellectual ethos in the Western Jin Dynasty,focusing on the literary activities of the literati group of 24 friends,which takes the articles of Pei Wei,Guo Xiang,Pan Yue and Lu Ji as typical examples to analyze the new changes of thought and the new trend of literature in the period.The third chapter compares the articles and the mentality change of literati before and after the southward ferry crossing.This part discusses the four kinds ofpsychological changes before and after literati in the Two Jin Dynasties crossing the river.It is from the three angles of the choice between officialand hermit,the region of the south and the north,the status of the upper and lower,so as to clarify the great influence of the southward ferry migration of gentry on the thought of the Jin people.The fourth chapter analyzes the new trend of the Confluence of Dark Learning of Neo-Taoism and Buddhismand the elegant style of writing in the Eastern Jin Dynasty.This part starts with the contention between Jingzhou and Yangzhou of the Eastern Jin Dynasty,the internal friction of the dispute between the North and the South,and the prevailing play-it-safe atmosphere of the time,so as to discuss the theory and creation of articles and the literary activities under the background of the Confluence of Dark Learning of Neo-Taoism and Buddhism in the Eastern Jin Dynasty.Furthermore,Tao Yuanming's literary achievement,aesthetic tendency and spiritual pattern are specially examined in this chapter so as to pinpoint his great significance as the epitome of literature,thought and spirit of the Two Jin Dynasties.The fifth chapter expounds with example illustration to discuss the historical status of the Two Jin Dynasties articles as the “generational literature”,as well as the literati's profound influence on the later generations.The main research methods of this paper are text analysis and history analysis,supplemented by catalog analysis and geography analysis.In addition,the paper takes a leaf from musicology and traditional Chinese medicine for observing some problems.It contains the following innovations:First of all,the vernacular writings are included into literature of the Two Jin Dynasties for study,which not only enriches the research object,but also is an innovation in the thinking.Secondly,independent from the six dynasties,the Two Jin Dynasties are taken out as an integral whole,by means of articles to observe the development history in aspect of literati's thought,emotion and aesthetic during the Two Jin Dynasties.In addition,researchers often said that the talents of Wei and Jin are more of“let nature take its course”,in fact,Wei and Jin literati's life is not“natural”,but quite a lot of pretentious.The life of the literati in the Two Jin dynasties was more artistic than natural.It is also the innovation in this thesis to try to restore their elegant demeanor via articles of the Two Jin Dynasties literati.When referring to the literati of the Two Jin Dynasties,people first remembered that apart from Tao Yuanming,it is often the all sorts of deficiency of the character on the part of the literati group.When it comes to the literature of the Two Jin Dynasties,most people pay attention to the poems of the Jin Dynasty,but the attention to the articles of the period is far from enough.As a result,the thesis has important theoretical significance in the study of Jin literature and even Chinese classical literature.
