The birth of modern Chinese literature,including the local literature of the May 4th Movement,is not only a simple literary event,but also involves a variety of institutional creation.The modern educational system is one.Through it,the local literature of the May 4th Movement possessed the character of "National Literature".The interactive relationship between the two is shown as follows: Modern Education has trained the writers and readers of local literature of the May 4th Movement,influenced people’s literary ideas,and influenced the writers’ writing of local China;The local literature of the May 4th Movement was supported by the legal knowledge acquisition system through modern education,so as to realize knowledge production and reproduction.Therefore,the research contents of this thesis are: to investigate the function of modern education system in the construction of local literature of the May 4th Movement,to analyze the literary imagination of local literature of the May 4th Movement to modern education,and to analyze the production and reproduction mechanism of local literature as knowledge.The thesis is divided into five parts in addition to introduction and epilogue.The introduction introduces the origin of the research,the way of thinking,defines the concepts of "modern education" and "local literature of the May 4th Movement",and analyzes the current research situation at home and abroad,so as to clarify the theoretical and practical significance of this topic."Modern Education" is a general term for a series of educational concepts,forms and features that are adapted to the development of modern Chinese society,including macro-level education system,management system,educational purposes,ideas and micro-level curriculum,textbooks,educational methods and other teaching activities.The broad sense of "May 4th local literature" is the first decade of modern literature to prepare for the emergence and development of local life as the performance of the theme of novel creation.In addition to the works of writers defined and pointed out by Lu Xun in his 1935 introduction to the secondcollection of Chinese new literature,there are other works of writers related to the creation of local literature in the first decade of the new literature.Chapter One,modern education and rural China.Native writers of the May 4th Movement were born or grew up in small towns,and their years of schooling coincided with the period when China’s modern education system was moving from tradition to modernity and becoming complete.Their extensive educational experience gave them the opportunity to immerse themselves in both traditional culture and modern civilization.The spatial transfer from the countryside to the city,from China to a foreign country,and the ideological transition from the traditional knowledge system to the modern civilization have not only caused writers’ strong homesickness,but also caused intense cultural conflicts,it also provides the reference of "the other" for the "self" and the "native land".On the one hand,the new change of knowledge has aroused their local concern,and the identity crisis brought about by the cultural conflict has given birth to their local identity.On the other hand,the reference of "the other" makes them rediscover the connotation of "rural China".Rural China not only represents the vast rural land which occupies the majority of the country,but also is a kind of literary concept and Writing Paradigm which regards rural land as the symbol of the nation-state.Among them,as a primary school local textbooks "local chronicles" on a generation of people’s outlook on life and the initial formation of the world outlook has played an inestimable role.The second chapter,Educational Reform and literary enlightenment.Chinese language education is a systems engineering which,in addition to teaching students the methods and techniques of literary creation,also provides students with cultural nourishment and spiritual enlightenment.With the establishment of the independent position of the Chinese subject in the modern school system,the activities of textbook compilation and teaching method reform have renewed the modern students’ literary concept.It includes many aspects,such as vernacular standard language,novel literary genre and literary aesthetic consciousness.The foreignlanguage teaching carries the foreign literature resources to provide the condition for the student’s literature reading and the imitation.Especially noticeable among them are Esperanto learners represented by Lu Yan,who are deeply influenced by humanitarian thought,translate the literature of the weak and small nations and absorb nutrition from it.Modern Education has reconstructed the students’ knowledge and ideological system,thus forming the modern ideological connotation of Nothing in Common,the author of local literature of the May 4th Movement.The trend of thought in science education has popularized the scientific method and spirit to the students,and cultivated their realistic character of seeking truth spoken language teaching in educational field.The return journey of the intellectuals has also changed with the intervention of modern education.The joy of returning home in prosperity has changed into the misunderstanding,neglect and even exclusion of the old-fashioned and ignorant people toward the intellectuals."return home and then leave home" becomes inevitable.Chapter Four,education and literature as mirror images.The formation of local literature in the May 4th Movement can not be separated from the construction of modern education.In turn,literature imagines and writes about modern education in its own way,and the two mirror each other.The Trinity Status of the local author of the May 4th Movement,"student-teacher-writer",determines that he will bring the modern educational materials into his writing with the mentality of self-knowledge of hardship and happiness.Whether it is modern schools,teachers,students or rural education is closely related to the image of gentry education reform has left the social and cultural imprint.It not only contains rich and true life experience,but also contains the writer’s deep thought on the future of rural China.In the eyes of the intellectuals and ordinary villagers,modern schools present two completely different aspects: Paradise and dilemma.The local literature of the May 4th Movement shaped the image of rural teachers in a literature started the process of entering the field of modern education since Lu Xun initiated it.It gradually became a kind of legal knowledge accepted by people through the selection of textbooks and teachers’ classroom teaching.This is not only the process of knowledge production and reproduction,but also the process of classicalization through education and related institutional forces.The May 4th local literature represented by Lu Xun’s works has successfully entered the narrative of literary history through the summary and combing of its concepts and theories,the selection and review of relevant articles and texts by textbooks and institutions,and achieved its own classicalization and the production and reproduction of literary knowledge with the help of a strong education system.Young students’ reading and spreading of local literature,Lu Xun’s knowledge imparting and ideological calling in and out of the classroom as a teacher have guaranteed the intergenerational inheritance and development of local literature in the May 4th movement.On national reconstruction: education and literature have the same way.Since the late Qing Dynasty,Chinese society has been struggling in the pursuit of national modernization.In fact,both modern education and May 4th local literature are only pursuing the same goal from different dimensions.Education through knowledge
