The Minor Sentence is a common linguistic phenomenon which contributes to the cohesion and connection of sentences,as well as the emphasis of new information. The minor Sentence exists in both oral and written discourses.Chinese and Korean minor sentences are both closely and intricately allied with syntax, semantics and pragmatics. As for nature, scope and category of minor sentences,Chinese and Korean linguistic communities have not reached a consensus of opinions, which severely restricts further researches. The comparative study of the minor sentence was rarely concerned and almost left in blankness. For the comprehensive study of comparison and contrast on Chinese and Korean minor sentences so as to find out their similarities and differences, this paper first adopts the term “minor sentence” into which both Chinese and Korean sentences without subject-verb structure are channeled. And then, the minor sentence is detined, and precisely categorized and the research scope of the text is determined,on the basis of which this paper adopts a case analysis of its nature and features.Furthermore,it probes into the cause of the usage of minor sentences, tries to explain both Chinese and Korean minor sentences through Leasteffort Principle,Economy Principle,Cooperative Principle of Grice, information structure and Accessibility Theory, and respectively studies the conditions of non-subject-verb and elliptical minor sentences.Mainly all the minor sentences in cluded in the dissertation are chosen from the written corpus of Constitution of the People's Republic of China and Constitutional Amendment by president Moon Jae-in,along with the oral corpus of Teahouse and Triangle Wave in Korean. To be concrete this paper compares non-subjectverb minor sentences from structural, semantic and pragmatic perspectives and elliptical minor sentences from the as peits of structure, components and recall components to expound their similarities and differences. At last, through data statistics, this paper contrasts Chinese and Korean minor sentences from many sides, and focuses on the sameness and distinction of oral and written language,to explore the meanings of sentence protrusion and minor sentence protrusion to language categorization. Thus,it can be seen that the minor sentence exists and even widely exists in both the written and oral Chinese and Korean.Due to different language types, cultures and thinking patterns,Chinese and Korean minor sentences vary from each other. For the long time, the minor sentence is considered incomplete and the research of it is scarcely conducted compared with the complete sentence. Therefore, the minor sentence and its theoretical status may arouse as much attention as the complete sentence does, which is significant to the comparative study, language teaching,AI translation of Chinese and Korean.
