D.Natsagdorj is not only one of the founders of modern and contemporary Mongolian literature, but also a great writer, poet, social contributor, and an outstanding translator. He lived in Mongolia in the early 20th century. At that time,on one hand,Mongolia was oppressed by three great mountains:feudal dukes,Chinese traders, and capitalism. On the other hand,a new People's Republic of Mongolia was established in the contradiction between the old and new social systems after the Revolution of 1911.Under such a social background,D.Natsagdorj dedicated his short life to the development of his country.D.Natsagdorj's works were very popular when he was still alive.Research of his life and works started from the 1950s.which has become an independent academic research topic. The study of D.Natsagdorj and his works has got remarkable achievements. However, when his works first came out, some of them were corrected or edited by the editors that readers and scholars hadn't had a whole picture of his original works. With the correction of the mistakes, and with the discover of new materials, the study of D.Natsagdorj will get to a new height. The Gold Bug(Altan Tsoh)is one of the most important translation works of D.Natsagdorj, which was released in 1935 as a separate edition, but it was not compiled until 2006.So far,no specific studies have been conducted on this translation. The reasons are as follows:First,as for publication reasons,it's quite late for many readers to read the The Gold Bug translated by D.Natsagdorj.Secondly,the German translation translated by D.Natsagdorj was uncertain.D.Natsagdorj's work Dark Cliff(Kharanggui Khad)is still an unsolved mystery. Some scholars have noticed that the The Gold Bug and Dark Cliff have similar contents, and they supposed that the short story Dark Cliff got some influence from The Gold Bug.But whether D.Natsagdorj was indeed influenced by Allen Poe has no theoretical and historical basis.D.Natsagdorj has studied in Russia and Germany for four years. His works must have the influence of Western literature and aesthetics, but unfortunately, this has not been fully studied. This dissertation firstly uses philology, translation studies and other methods to find out the German version of the The Gold Bug translated by Natsagdorj. On the basis of this.throuigh the comparison of the tl-hree texts of Mongolian,German and English, the translator's translation characteristics and techniques are analyzed and criticized. Then, using comparative literature research methods, the writer will conduct a comparative study of D.Natsagdorj's work Dark Cliff and Allan Poe's works, explore the western cultural factors in D.Natsagdorj's works and analyze how these factors and influences enrich the content and expression of the works of D.Natsagdorj.This dissertation has three parts, including an introduction, the body(three chapters).ancd a conclusion. The introduction mainly introduces D.Natsagdorj's life and works and as well as Allen Poe's,the reasons for the topic selection, research situation, research significance, research methods, and research materialsThe first chapter of this dissertation firstly introduces D.Natsagdorj's literary translation and historical book translation and subsequently discusses and analyzes the scholars'research on D.Natsagdorj's literary translation.Thirdly, this chapter discusses the publishing situation and influence of the story The Gold Bug.On this basis above, the writer will analyze the purposes of translation of The Gold Bug from five aspects, according to the"Preface"written by D.Natsagdorj,D.Natsagdorj translated the The Gold Bug from a German translation. Therefore, the German translation needs to be confirmed. Therefore this chapter conducts a comparative study of the German translations which were published before 1935.By comparing the introduction poems, prefaces and postscripts, the writer found that the German translation translated by D.Natsagdorj is based on a selected work of Allen Poe published in Leipzig in 1914 entitled Phantastische Erzahlz.ungen.This is an important contribution to the study of D.Natsagdorj for new evidence and new materials have been added. The second chapter analyzes the translation features and translation methods of D.Natsagdorj by comparing the Mongolian,German and English texts of the The Gold Bug The Mongolian translation is classified into two aspects:"successful translation"and"defective translation",and the writer will analyze them respectivelySuccessful translation includes adding words, reducing words, omitting translations.interpreting translations, etc. This chapter shows corresponding examples to analyze translating features and skills. The translator strictly follows the German original text and expresses the content of'the original work in rich forms and languages while guaranteeing the integrity of the original work. This reflects the translator's profound translation skills. The defective translation includes the translator's mistranslation, the situation of the inconsistency with the original English text. The author believes that wrong translation is not a good standard for assessing translation, but to some extent,it reflects the differences between two cultures and the different ways of thinking. On the basis of the analysis of the Mongolian translation of D.Natsagdorj, this chapter makes a trilingual dictionary of the The Gold Bug.The third chapter uses the comparative literature research method and Narratology to conduct a comparative study on D.Natsagdorj's Dark Cliff and Allen Poe's The Gold Bug and other works, exploring the relationship between the two authorsThrough the analysis of the first person narrative perspective and the narrative structure of two works,it is concluded that"Dark Cliff is indeed influenced by the The Gold Bug Since D.Natsagdorj'Dark Cliff has been influenced by the The Gold Bug,it may also be influenced by other works of Allen Poe.Therefore,by comparing the writing styles and female images in the story the Dark Cliff and Allen Poe's works,it is found that Dark Cliff has a remarkable Gothic style, which is very similar to the style of some works by Allan Poe.At the same time.Dark Cliff and Allen Poe's some works have a significant similarity in the shaping of characters, that is.,the image of "a beautiful and intelligent woman.”By comparing D.Natsagdorj's"The Girl of Mountain and River"and Allen Poe's Israfel,it is obvious that the female image in D.Natsagdorj's work is derived from the image of the musical angel in Ellen Poe's Israfel. So,it can be affirmed that D.Natsagdorj's writing was not only influenced by The Gold Bug,but also influenced by other works of Allen Poe.The conclusion mainly summarizes the contents of the three chapters and the research results and extracts the main ideas of this dissertation.
