Wang Qi,has been an important artist active in the Chinese art scene from the late 30th to the late 1990s.His works such as "The Jialing River","Hou Shui","The Stonework","The Late Return","Old Banyan Tree",have become the classics in the history of Chinese modern print and even the history of Chinese modern art.He actively participated in the theoretical contend,wrote a large number of art literary theory,they have become an important material for us to study the ideological trend of Chinese modern art.He also actively participated in social activities and even served as the leader of the art community.He has become an outstandingrepresentative of a generation of artists who grew up in the 20th century Chinesehistorical flood.Wang Qi’s unique artistic career was inevitably involved in the historical flood of the transition of modern Chinese art in the 20th century,and wasentangled and integrated in it.It constituted not only an "integrity",but also includedcontradictions and Complexity.Taking Wang Qi as a case,it is precisely revealing thecomplex relationship between individual and time,art and politics(or revolution)inthe turbulent flow of contemporary art,and the ambivalence and difficult choicesencountered by individual artists.From the 1930s to the "Cultural Revolution",it constituted a special period of accelerated "integration" in the modern transformation of Chinese art in the 20thcentury,and Wang Qi is becoming a very typical case for examining and studying themodern transformation of Chinese art in the 20th century.
