Local chronicle is a precious land of literature with a unique way that rec ords the natural,social history and the status of the information writings.There are about eight thousand kinds of existing ancient records,accounting for abo ut one-tenth of the existing ancient books,with a great quantity and a wide ra nge of content,the ancient records have a great value in serving the social pr oduction and promoting academic research.As a region with more developed c ulture,Hubei has a long history in compiling local chronicles,a large number and wide popularization,which earns Hubei local chronicles a special status,es pecially in the Qing Dynasty,local chronicles made remarkable achievements a nd some even have striking status in the history of China local chronicles.At present,most of the academic research on Hubei local chronicles focuses on a few local records,and the overall investigation is relatively rare.In this paper,the author attaches importance to Hubei local chronicles in Qing dynasty and includes the local chronicles before Qing dynasty as well.T he paper employs documentary method and comparison method.One the basis of sorting out ancient and new Hubei local chronicles,bibliographical works an d collected works,the paper draws the outline of the development of Hubei lo cal chronicles,analyzing the compiling features and development rules,investig ating the situation of Qing dynasty lost works,and researching the compiling o rganization.In addition to the introduction,this paper is divided into five chapters:Chapter 1:Development of Hubei local chronicles before the Qing Dynast y.On the basis of drawing on the achievements of the predecessors,the author uses the ancient records,systematically combing the development of Hubei lo cal chronicles before the Qing Dynasty.According to the general situation of t he development of Hubei local chronicles and the characteristics of Chinese loc al chronicles history,the Hubei local chronicles history is divided into three st ages:the Han,Wei,Jin,Sui and Tang dynasties,the Song and Yuan Dynasties and the Ming dynasty,and explored the spatial and temporal distribution.Chapter 2:A summary of the development of Hubei local chronicles in th e Qing Dynasty.From the macroscopic point of view of the Qing Dynasty at all stages of the characteristics of local records,types,compilation of the syste m,with a view to basically understanding and grasping the Hubei local chroni cles in Qing Dynasty.Chapter 3:Spatial and Temporal Analysis of Hubei local chronicles in th e Qing Dynasty.The Qing Dynasty is the heyday of the history of Hubei,this chapter explores the achievements of the local records of Hubei in the Qing Dynasty,analyzes the reasons of the local prosperity and focuses on the differe nces of the spatial and temporal distribution of the local records in Hubei.Chapter 4:the investigation of Hubei lost works in the Qing Dynasty.The chapter systematically combs the lost local chronicles in the Qing dynasty,inv estigating title,volume,compiler,spreading and the lost age.Meanwhile,this c hapter also investigates the reason and feature of Hubei local chronicle in the Qing dynasty,revealing the whole situation.Chapter 5:Exploring the Compilation Organization of the Hubei Local Ch ronicles in the Qing Dynasty.The author analyzes the compiling procedure,fun d sources and personnel allocation to reveal the situation of local chronicles co mpiling and make a summary that the compiling of Hubei local chronicles in Qing dynasty has formed a relatively systematical and strict mechanism,which remarks the achievements that Qing dynasty local chronicles made.From the historical context to recognize and explore the achievements of t he development of the local chronicles of Hubei in the Qing Dynasty,the author comes to conclusion that the number of Hubei local chronicles was rich,th e range was full and the quality of revising was greatly improved,which was the heyday of the traditional society.The author also points out that there is st ill a gap of quality and quantity between Zhejiang,Jiangsu and Hunan because of the lack of talent and academic atmosphere in the Qing Dynasty.
