The worship of Yuan Dynasty drama is a way of narration and thinking in Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty drama.It relates the phenomenon of Ming and Qing drama history obviously or unobviously,so does the foundation of classical drama works.The generation of Ming and Qing drama includes two areas.One is worshiping Yuan drama and set it as an idol,criterion and model.It mainly represents in classicization of "West Chamber" and "Pipa".Yuan drama,as an accomplished literature resource,means armory and soil.Yuan drama is imitated,recreated,extended,varied,dislocated by Ming and Qing drama.The prosperous of Ming and Qing drama is deeply influenced by Yuan drama.On another side,in classicization of "Peony Pavilion",and "Palace of Eternal Life" and "The Peach Blossom Fan",Yuan drama is the basis of reformation and washback.The discussion is not focused on identification of classical works,but on the relationship between generation of classical works and Yuan drama worship.It discusses the influence and power of Yuan drama through drama works in generations.It observes the Ming and Qing culture tendency,aesthetic,author mentality,which formed the classical drama works.This dissertation will demonstrate in the following five areas.First,to clarify the Yuan drama worship through analyzing the generation of classical drama works in Ming and Qing dynasty.It could divide into four periods as a general attitude of worshiping Yuan drama,according to the development of drama history.The first time period is 1368-1520 in Ming dynasty,totally 153 years.Yuan drama is concluded and perceived,a starting time of identifying Yuan drama.The second time period is 1521-1587,totally 67 years.It is a period of discussion on Yuan drama theory on classical drama.In many discussion and debate,scholars confirmed"West Chamber" and "Pipa" as two classical drama works.The third period is 1588-1651,totally 64 years.It is the prosperity period of Ming and Qing drama works,with the greatest drama theory.The classical Ming drama "Peony Pavilion" is developed from the exploration and theory discussion on Yuan drama,and brings a new progression of drama development.The fourth time period is 1662-1820,totally 169 years.During this period,the southern drama theory and legendary literature had formed its own theory.The southern is not learning from Yuan drama,but developed independently but through a reformation and washback of Yuan drama.During this progression,the southern drama had concluded in theory and promoted.The second chapter discusses in the classicization of "West Chamber",as a model drama work in Ming and Qing drama history.Many critics,creations and performances are based on this drama.It reflects Ming and Qing drama artists worshiped Yuan drama,and formed another classical drama work "West Chamber".It influenced the development of Ming and Qing drama and defined the classical drama works.The third chapter discusses a classical work "Pipa" in Ming and Qing drama history."Pipa" is a great example from plotting,scenery and character.During Ming and Qing dynasty,drama on ethic "filial sons" and "virtuous wife" is popular.The plot is set for "touching souls" by set a moral female character in difficult situation."Pipa" is a symbolic drama with one young male and one young female main character,atypical scenes with happy and sorrow stories.The previous elements formed "Pipa" as a classical drama work.The fourth chapter discusses a classical drama "Peony Pavilion" in its meaning on drama history.This drama inherited art views from Yuan drama deeply,as it developed,continued and expanded.On another side,Ming and Qing drama artists recognized"Peony Pavilion" as a classical drama work,and criticized other drama works based on it.Within the criticism and notes from Ming and Qing critics,they enhanced the point of view on worshiping Yuan drama and hoping to develop beyond it.From the character on the creation of "Peony Pavilion",critics expressed their will to develop and establish a modern drama.Finally,"Peony Pavilion" expressed its drama ideology and thinking in worshiping Yuan drama.The fifth chapter discusses two classical dramas "Palace of Eternal Life" and"Peach Blossom Fan".Forming a classical drama work is from the art value and literature value,and also from the art appreciation and worship from critics from that time period.Finally,"Southern Hong" and "Northern Kong" represents the highest achievement of Qing drama.It showed Qing Drama is developed and reformed from Yuan drama basis,backwashed and innovated.
