The storage and logistics of vegetable seeds is directly related to the competitions among seed enterprises,as well as affected by the vegetable market,climatic conditions and supervised by the agriculture departments of the government.Therefore,the storage and logistics of vegetable seeds have complicated costs structure,limited profit margin and difficulty in management.In order to improve economic benifits,seed enterprises have to assure high seed quality and hold down costs synchronously.Therefore,it is an urgent necessity of seed companies to find key management points in storage and logistics of vegetable seeds so that the vegetable seed quality and operating costs can be balanced.On the one hand,the traditional manual production,monitoring and management cannot meet the industrial,informatized and scale developmental requirements of modern seed industry.On the other hand,the uncertainty of the agricultural production and the uncontrollable nature of the seed storage and logistics make existing decision theories and optimization methods unavailable to the optimal management of vegetable seed storage and logisticsIn order to solve these problems,this paper applied the relevant theoretical models and analytical methods to the management practice based on particularities and problems in the actual storage and logistics of vegetable seeds.To improve the work efficiency and management,4 key issues listed below were summarized and researched: vegetable seed demand forecasting,vegetable seed packaging planning optimization,vegetable seed storage temperature and humidity condition optimization and vegetable seed quality traceability management.The main research work of this paper is as follows:1.Vegetable seed demand forecasting.Lacking vegetable seed demand forecasting results in the inefficient management of storage,processing and packaging of seeds.Vegetable seed demand has seasonal variation and random fluctuation,as well as affected by dynamic factors such as seed inventory,vegetable market price and weather conditions.Thus,a hybrid Holt-Winters and support vector machine(SVM)forecasting model is proposed.The Holt-Winters model is first used to decompose the linear trend and seasonal factor in the seed sales history data,and then input the dynamic factors into two kernel functions of the support vector machine to accurately forecast and correct over-fitting respectively.The results provide a promising vegetable seed demand forecasting model that helps understand the relationships between seed demand and other dynamic factors.2.Vegetable seed packaging planning optimization.The vegetable seed packaging lacks macro planning and problems such as production by order and idle line often occur.Because the vegetable seed packaging involves limitations from seed procurement,inventory,packaging and sales,its planning optimization problem has dynamics,complexity and multiple constraints.A multi-item dynamic lot-sizing model is proposed to minimize the total costs of seed packaging and inventory by using the number of products packaged by manual and assembly lines within the planning period as the decision variables.A heuristic algorithm based on back-shifting is proposed to solve the model and the results of actual case data provide guidance for the optimization management of vegetable seed packaging.3.Vegetable seed storage temperature and humidity condition optimization.Seed companies cannot manage the storage conditions of vegetable seeds accurately,resulting in frequent occurrence of vegetable seed deterioration.By high temperature and relative humidity(RH)accelerating aging tests,the effects of storage temperature and RH on the longevity of vegetable seeds are investigated,and the longevity of vegetable seeds under different storage temperature and RH is predicted according to the Ellis’ s seed longevity prediction equation.Considering the longevity of vegetable seeds and the management limitations of seed warehouse,a nonlinear programming model is established to study the optimal combination of temperature and RH conditions for long-term storage of various vegetable seeds.The quantitative results can help seed companies reduce the risk vegetable seeds deterioration during storage.4.Quality Analysis and Critical Control Point management of vegetable seed based on the Internet of Things(IoT).According to the QACCP(Quality Analysis and Critical Control Point)management theory and the requirements of the 2016 "Seed Law" amendment,the development strategy and software module design of the vegetable seed quality-safe traceable system software are proposed.The software uses IoT technology to 1)conduct informational management on key aspects of vegetable seed storage and logistics,2)monitor vegetable seed storage temperature and RH,3)implement seed packaging planning and seed sales management and 4)vegetable seed quality-safe traceable management.It helps seed enterprises ensure the quality and safety of vegetable seeds.The advancement and application significance of the above achievements are: propose vegetable seed demand forecasting method,forecast the vegetable seed demand within error less than 20%;propose vegetable seed packaging planning optimization method,planning,save seed packaging and inventory costs about 30% by optimizing the vegetable seed packaging;explore the influence of storage conditions on the longevity of vegetable seeds,propose the optimal management method of storage temperature and RH for vegetable seeds and save about 25% costs for the long-term storage of vegetable seeds;propose the development strategy and software module design of vegetable seed quality-safe traceable system software which improves the seed storage and logistics and helps seed enterprises implement vegetable seed quality and safety traceable management.In summary,the results provide some theoretical and methodology innovation for the storage and logistics of vegetable seeds,which is expected to fill the theoretical and practical blanks in the storage and logistics management of vegetable seeds.
