Investigation On Rapid Urbanization Process Of Dubai And Its Inspiration To Shenzhen Special Zone

With the rapid economic development of Dubai,the miracles of its urban development have been created continuously,and Dubai's development road and development model have once been pursued and imitated by the whole world,especially by Arab countries,however,Dubai also has obvious problems.This thesis,being written on the basis of reading a lot of data and field investigation,analyzed Dubai's evolutionary process,policy orientation,and successful experiences in industrial structure transformation by use of the related theories of sociology and economics,and summarized the achievements made by Dubai in its economic transition,revealed the urbanization development characteristics,and existing problems of Dubai,as well as their influence on resources and ecological environment.In addition,this thesis also innovatively conducted a comparative study on urbanization of Dubai and Shenzhen,dialectically analyzed the reference significance,on the successful experience and existing disadvantages of their respective development model,and also revealed the existing problems in their development.Dubai is one of the cities with the most rapid development,which the whole Arab world is very proud of,while it's Shenzhen that represents the hopes of China,which is a representative of developing countries.China's development speed has attracted worldwide attention,and Shenzhen is ahead of other cities in China in terms of development.These two cities,with two different systems of organization and cultures,have both created miracles in urban development,and the comparison of these two cities has greater academic value and practical significance for world city studies.This paper is mainly composed of seven chapters.Chapter 1 introduced the significance,methodology,thought and main contents of topic research.Chapter 2 gave an introduction to globalization and urbanization,including the concepts and connotations of globalization and urbanization,as well as urbanization-related research theories and development models,and also introduced the overview of research on Dubai's urbanization development.Chapter 3 reviewed and summarized the urbanization development history of Dubai including city overview,origin,development,and planning,in combination with Dubai government orientation,and pointed out the problems existing in the process of urbanization.Meanwhile,this chapter made a systematic overview on planning background,concept,contents and actual construction situation of Dubai's main masterplans,and conducts analysis and evaluation on main masterplans.Chapter 4 studied the diversified economic development of Dubai by use of related theories on industrial structure transformation and in combination with industrial development data,with contents involving several main industries of Dubai's economy: trade and transportation industry,construction industry,financial industry,tourism industry,manufacturing industry,and real estate industry,also summarized and set forth the innovation of Dubai development model and its leading role in the national economy,and discussed the development direction of the next transformation of Dubai's economy.Chapter 5 discussed the sustainability of Dubai development,with contents involving community,high-rise building,energy,water resources,and ecological environment.Chapter 6 summarized the urbanization of Shenzhen,including city overview,development,planning,population,and economic and industrial structure change.Chapter 7 comparatively studied the urbanization of Dubai and Shenzhen,and expounded the inspiration of Dubai to Shenzhen Special Zone.These two cities were both selected because of thier suitable positioning and development models,and how they realized rapid urbanization in a very short time,which created miracles of world city developments.This thesis selected the development conditions of these two cities after 1980,summarized and concluded the similarities and differences of these two cities,conducted a discussion on urban development background,urban size,urban economic and industrial development,and analyzed the factors of their success as well as the existing problems.In Dubai,the virtual economy accounts for a high proportion of GDP,and its advantageous industries are trade,tourism,real estate,and finance;in Shenzhen,the real economy is in a dominating position,and its competitive industries are manufacturing,finance,wholesale and retail.This thesis discusses the selection of development paths of Dubai and Shenzhen and their demonstration significance,which would provide some reference significance for other cities in the world.In the final conclusion part,this thesis outlines the generality and characteristics of the two cities,summarizes the problems and disadvantages in the urbanization process of Dubai,reveales the difficulties faced by urbanization development,and discovered that economic construction should be developed within the abilities,and the industrial structure and development model should be timely adjusted based on the regional and international environmental changes,so as to realize the sustainable urban development.
