Study On Urban Experience And Construction Of Experiential City

With the penetration of the consumption culture and the emergence of landscape society,the experience of urbanites who regard the city as the object has become a symbol of their spiritual existence.While urban life and urban competition have already exceeded the functional and material aspects,the experiential magnetic field that is made up of combinations of city trait such as being cool or beautiful,fast or slow,static or dynamic,grows to be an important factor to improve residents' living quality and tourists' satisfaction,to achieve increase by introducing flow capital,attracting human capital and optimizing brand image.Historical practice shows that the characteristics and experiences of the city can be recognized and admired by means of individualized design,shaping and operating.It is the development trend for a human-oriented city to adapt to urban people's landscape living style,to constantly improve urban life experience,and to shape people's spirit and mind.For many cities seeking for transcendent development,it's the significant constructive dimension to aim at urban competition and sustainable development,to make every effort to build an experiential city,as well as to promote the systematic increment of the city.The study attempts to make some breakthroughs in four dimensions:This thesis clarifies the differences between city people and urban people,and protrudes unique academic values of the concept of urban people.Instead of focusing on city alone,urban research pays attention to both people and city due to subject-object duality of urban people.Some sections have probed into the city and its modernity and urbanite's subjective minds which are shaped by the objective living world.Taking experience as the philosophical basis and research approach,the study combs the concept and the mechanism of experience,and connects urban studies with embodied philosophy to set the city ethics and judging evaluation.The dissertation proposes the dimensions,methods of experiencing a city,builds the measurement and comparison model of urban experience,and put forward the four-dimensional approach of urban experience based on IPEC model(Image,Position,Event and Culture).IPEC model is used in empirical,quantitative analysis,in which 40prefecture-level cities are selected and surveyed by applying their economy and society and culture experience data.The concept of experiential city and city experiecifying is put forward for the first time with exploring the composite onward direction of building an experiential city.The last chapter tries to offer some advice for transferring a city of experience(primary stage)to a city for experience(advanced stage)through eight aspects,which include shaping humanized city,developing urban experience economy,increasing viscosity,promoting urban recognition,creating memory space,fostering diversity,protecting historical and cultural resources,and creating the brand image of the city.The dissertation suggests constructing a theory of Parisian Studies to deepen empirical research on Paris.
