Under the Rural Revitalization Strategy, agriculture and rural areas have been in the strategic position of priority development in China.Based on the reality of large-scale land but smallholder peasants, rural construction has witnessed the urgent need for smallholders' modern transformation and the new trend of changing social, economic and environmental structure in villages. The resilient theory is an important and accurate theoretical tool for complex systems to respond to changes. Therefore, this research, from the perspective of resilience, takes the agricultural villages as the research object, tries to answer the research question "based on the modern transformation of smallholder peasants, how to cognize and how to construct resilient villages in response to the complex and dynamic risks".This research follows the methodology of "theoretical foundation-mechanism analysis-cognitive framework-construction strategy".Based on the complex adaptive system(CAS)and resilience theory,it tries to deduct the cognitive framework of resilient villages, and therefore proposes the construction strategy of resilient villages. It takes Guping Village in Zhejiang Province as the empirical case study,to provide practical insights for the agricultural villages. The main parts of research show as follows.(1)Analysis of the correlation mechanism between the features of rural construction elements and the system's resilience. From the diachronic and synchronic aspects, the research chooses China's four major periods in the rural evolution and the three main current types of villages. At the micro level,it analyzes the construction features from the "subject-industry-space" framework, while it evaluates the macroscopical resilience state in the "socio-economic-environment" dimensions.By comparing,it establishes the correlation mechanism between the features and the system's resilience.Meanwhile,it also puts forward the dilemmas for the agricultural villages to achieve resilience(2)Interpretation of the cognitive framework of resilient villages.Based on the epistemology of CAS and methodology of resilience theory,it recognizes the openness, the organization and the discourse power of the villagers, and the complexity of the industry and space as the important elements, and figures out their different roles including the prerequisite, determining factors and representative features in the cognitive framework of resilient villages.(3)Proposals for the resilient village construction strategy. It sets the scenario planning process and principle, and proposes the operational construction strategy to enhance the system's resilience in social, economic and environmental dimensions. The subject strategy suggests a rural construction community which integrates internal and external forces and empowerment of the villagers. The industrial strategy aims at deepening and extending the industrial chain, while the spatial strategy tries to realize the comprehensive resilience by building an ecological base, maintaining rurality features and forming the community identity.(4)Empirical case study on the construction of resilient villages.Taking Guping Village as the research object, based on the cognitive framework of resilient villages,it puts forward the adaptive construction strategy of a unity rural construction community, scenario industrial planning and adaptive renewal,to provide a reference value for the whole process of rural construction of resilient villages. In summary,on the theoretical level, the research constructs a cognitive framework of resilient villages through the linkage of the features of rural construction elements and the systems' resilience status, based on the adaptability of the peasants. On the methodological level,it proposes the construction strategies of the resilient villages from the resilient perspective, which have practical significance for the villages to cope with various uncertain risks for a sustainable future.
