Research On Space Value And Renewal Of Shenzhen’s Urban Village

In the context of economic globalization and rapid urbanization,a large number of immigrant settlements emerge in numerous cities around the world,accompanied by various urban problems.With the rapid development in the past forty years,large-scale development and construction of Chinese cities has begun to slow down significantly,and the gradual shift from current incremental development to stock optimization has become an imminent issue for a lot of cities in China.Since urban village,a distinctive settlement of floating population and a key object of urban renewal practice,covers two issues of settlement of floating population and urban storage space optimization at the same time,in-depth research of urban village renewal is a prominent solution to related problems.Shenzhen is typical for the urban village issue of China.Urban renewal has long been the principal component of urban construction of Shenzhen.As the prominent object of renewal,urban village has the largest land area,the most massive population,the most involved parties and the most complicated process among all the renewal practices.After years of practice and exploration,Shenzhen has taken the lead in achieving normalization of urban village renewal and entering the institutionalization stage.This study,based on the basic theory of spatial generation and methodology of renewal theory,sorts out the evolution,spatial attributes and spatial value of Shenzhen’s urban village by means of literature review and field investigation method in sociology,with corresponding renewal strategies put forward.Taking consideration to the macro background of Shenzhen’s urban village,this paper,based on the construction characteristics,takes an overview of its evolvement in three periods,expounds its current features in terms of distribution scope,architectural form,constituent group,cultural development and economic form and summarizes existing problems in aspects of material space,society,culture and economy.Furthermore,the author ponders about the relationship between "city" and "village" and proposes the prominent urban attributes of urban village.Under the influence of Shenzhen’s unique urban development track,Shenzhen’s urban village has become a specific urban phenomenon,special urban space and unique urban community.This paper views the role of urban village in the urban scope,sorts out the value connotation of urban village in a systematic manner and indicates the extraordinary social effect,irreplaceable cultural attributes and outstanding economic efficiency of urban village,which embodies multi-dimensional positive value.This paper summarizes gain and loss and challenges in the renewal of Shenzhen’s urban village,rethinks the renewal of Shenzhen’s urban village,corrects and reverses people’s cognitive misunderstandings about urban village and identifies values of Shenzhen’s urban village.The goals of renewal of Shenzhen’s urban village are determined to be maintaining stable development,strengthening resilience and enriching connotation of the city under the guidance of symbiotic theory and organic renewal theory,with “Ecological Restoration and City Repair” being the policy orientation.On this basis,this paper puts forward systematic renewal strategies and application principles,with traces of society,culture,economy and physical space followed.Compared with other studies,this paper takes the initiative to sort out the value of Shenzhen’s urban village from the perspective of urban system and construct renewal strategies systematically in both horizontal and vertical directions.In terms of individuality,this paper,based on the research of the space value and renewal of Shenzhen’s urban village,puts forward urban village renewal strategies in line with characteristics of Shenzhen according to the distinctive features of Shenzhen’s urban village,and improves and supplement relevant researches of Shenzhen’s urban village to the existing research;in terms of commonality,this paper offers enlightenment and guidance to urban village renewal of other cities from Shenzhen’s urban village,the sample of the most abundant practices and the most complicated problems in renewal in China,while providing a reference for domestic and foreign cities in dealing with similar problems of floating population settlement transformation.
