Mechanism And Methodology Of BPE

The globally increasing concern about environmental and climatic issues bring new challenge and opportunities to architecture.Nowadays in China,building industry is experiencing the vital transition from extensive expanding of scales to refined and precise improvement of quality.Under this circumstance,building performance draws more and more attention.BPE?Building Performance Evaluation?emerged after2^nd World War,along with the environmental behavior science and Post-Occupancy Evaluation.It is important methodology system about scientific and rational assessment on buildings.The UK,where the first building evaluation system was studied and proposed,plays a vital rule in the development of BPE.Nowadays in UK,systematic frameworks of BPE have been perfected,and practical experience has accumulated and related market has been prosperous.On the contrary,the development of this field in China starts more than 20 years after the developed counties.Residential buildings,among all different types of buildings,are the most common and directly relate to daily experience of people.BPE system on residential buildings in China,however,has not been properly developed yet,which more study and researchers should be focused on.This study reviews the development of BPE mechanism and methodology in both China and UK.Then the research scope is narrowed down to BPE practice of domestic buildings.It's demonstrated that POE is still the most important stage of BPE and in which“Physical performance”and“Housing condition”should be the most significant aspects.So these two elements are also set as the main content in empirical study of this research.The empirical POE study mainly consists of long-term field tests of 114 sample households and about 500 detailed questionnaires survey towards three different climate zones in China,including five cities,Beijing,Shanghai,Wuhan,Guangzhou and Shenzhen.Based on the reliable collected data,further comparison and contrast are done,and characteristics of indoor thermal environment performance and pattern of living behaviors are summed up.At last,suggestions are proposed to inspire our country to establish the BPE system on domestic buildings.The suggestions are carefully proposed in terms of basi c principle,framework and contents,methodology and development schedule.This dissertation study is organized as follows.Firstly,the background and development process of BPE is reviewed and the significance of research on BPE is stressed.Also,basic framework and general methodology of BPE are introduced,especially according to the condition in UK.Then theory and practical experience of BPE on domestic buildings are introduced and concluded.After that long-term empirical BPE studies on domestic buildings in China are conducted,thoroughly-analyzed and concluded.As conclusion,detailed suggestions on principals,structures,categories,contents and development sequence are proposed.At last,works done in this research is re-stated and outlooks on BPE development is discussed.
