| High-density of city development oftentimes causes various interwoven conflicts, such as environmental pollution, public health and social distinction. Therefore it is essential to seek solutions of optimizing environmental quality in a highly dense built environment.Urban Green Space(UGS)has been widely recognized as a strategic space asset in terms of environmental quality, public health and landscaping. How to improve quality and increase efficiency of UGS in a highly dense built environment is constantly under the spotlight within the academic circles.Normally speaking, available green space in a development area is relatively small in consideration of economic value of land utilization.Superior green space can hardly exist if it is not adjacent to natural surroundings such as mountains or waters. It is learned from international practices, however, that mega UGS characterized by structured superior green space oftentimes becomes one of the crucial strategies to ensure quality in urban environment.Mega UGS is notably heterogonous in a highly dense built environment. It offers great values to various aspects of ecology, environment, society and economy.Currently, there are existing or under-developing mega UGSs in some cities in China. They are generating great values.Meanwhile they are suffering from contradictions of division, low efficiency, and unbalanced target-orientation that results in oversight of general needs, because of impact and limitation caused by multiple factors, such as historical background, value system, and condition of social and economical development. We are remarkably short of knowledge and understanding related to this type of space,as well as practical and technical countermeasures. In addition to that, our regulation plan and technical tool for city green land cannot provide sufficient support.Taking this into account, this study tries to fill in the blanks to explore the mega UGS’ core nature and law through its formation phenomenon and characteristies in a highly dense built environment, and to develop theoretical basis of category research in mega UGS.Based on this,it proposes that mega UGS can be positioned as a structural space type in a highly dense built environment. It provides theoretical and technical support and practical approach for UGS application,in order to supplement the theory and practice of our current city green land system. This study consists of three divisions:Division Ⅰ is research basis, including Introduction and Chapter 2.Division Ⅰ begins with a review and summary of previous research basis and observation of mega UGS phenomenon. It goes on with a definition discrimination between urban green space and city green land, then offers a basic concept of mega urban green space, and discusses "scale" valuation in order to clarify study object.Based upon the understanding of mega UGS’ distinctiveness,it develops an empirical comparative analysis framework of mega UGS by incorporating the green space basic theory, cognitive model, and the theoretical basis of comparative researchDivision Ⅱ is composed of case study, empirical investigation and comprehensive comparison, including Chapter 3 to 5.Based on the empirical analysis framework of "formation, positioning, characteristics and value",Division Ⅱ analyses thirteen cases in different areas and times, among which Guangzhou Haizhu Wetland is studied thoroughly.Furthermore,it illustrates the commonality and difference between inland and overseas cases from the four aspects of UGS,which are "formation, positioning, characteristics and value".Consequently,it discovers the value and necessity of providing a mega UGS in a highly dense built environment, induces the inner regularity and influence mechanism between UGS’ formation, positioning, characteristics and value, and explores the deeper cause from the three dimensions of cognition, system and technologyDivision Ⅲ is the study of planning strategy, including Chapter 6.Under the concept and trend of current urban development green space network,Division Ⅲ proposes the mega UGS as the center of a space network, and finally presents a mega UGS strategy sustained and supported by project components, planning principles, planning contents, planning tools, and planning processes. |
