Study On Greenway Planning And Design In China

The thought on greenway and its planning concept has evolved in China with a history of longstanding.The formation and development of Zhou's Roadway in the Western Zhou Dynasty,Royal Road and Wu zhang Roadway in Qin Dynasty,and post road,official road,as well as civilian road in other past dynasties has played an important role in China's regional development,cultural communication and even the beauty-appreciation and the progress of ecological civilization of Chinese nation.In the post-industrial society and in the context of global urbanization,influence from urban development onto the natural ecological environment is deepening further while the urban residents are holding updated requirements on public space.The planning and design of the greenway and its network is an effective instrument and measure for the designers to deal with the urban problems such as deficiency of urban ecological resource,degradation of municipal environment,breakage of historical context as well as shortage of public space.Moreover,it has been over two centuries since greenway had been taken as an effective mode for land protection and utilization and an advanced planning concept.As an important chain on the ecological network construction,the research planning and construction of greenways has been generally attached importance to in various countries.The development of the international greenway,which remedies and optimizes the negative impact brought about by the rapid urban construction,enhances the regional ecosystem function,and enriches the lifestyle of the urban residents that are close to nature,has deeply affected the research and practice of greenways in China.The formulation and implementation of Greenway Network Master Plan in Pearl River Delta in 2010 kicked off the large-scale construction of greenways in China.In the past seven years,the research results of the planning and design of China's greenways have also been remarkable.The number of papers with the key words of the greenways in domestic academic journals has sprung up like mushrooms,and the new lifestyle and low-carbon effects brought by the greenways also has been widely recognized in the entire society.Professor Mark S.Lindhult,an internationally renowned green way expert,praised Shenzhen Greenway Network's achievements as "extraordinary and outstanding" after site-visiting greenways in Pearl River Delta.After visiting Guangdong,Xi Jinping once said that"Donghaochong and greenways all over Guangdong are partial details of beautiful China and sustainable development." The practice and construction of greenway planning and design has been carried out nationwide,but due to the lack of systematic and targeted greenways theoretical guidance with Chinese characteristics,grass-roots understanding of greenways are uneven,and the implementation of greenways and post-management are still at a relatively coarse level.Starting from the inheritance and innovation of traditional Chinese culture,finding the greenway planning and design strategies and methods applicable to China,and practicing the harmonious coexistence between man and nature in the process of rapid urbanization are the issues that this article focuses on and aims to solve.It is true that the construction of domestic greenways is growing vigorously,while our domestic greenway theory is still not mature.The meaning and connotation of greenways are relatively weak,and the design strategy is still not perfect.The Chinese nation has 5,000 years of civilization and unprecedented urbanization in terms of scale and speed.In the process of urbanization with distinctive Chinese characteristics,the introduction of international greenway theory is even more important to take the initiative to protect urban and rural green areas and remedy the negative effects of rapid urbanization.We need to sort out greenway theories and planning and design strategies applicable to the development of urban and rural areas in China based on China's national condition,the absorption of the essence of Chinese human settlements culture and ecological values,and understanding of the spatial behavioral psychology and tendencies of the Chinese people,and.The first decade of China's greenway movement is about to be completed and the systematic research on greenway planning and design is of great urgency.By comprehensively reviewing the achievements and development practices of international greenway theories,starting from the actual situation of China's cultural and natural resources and the status quo of the industry development,and from the perspective of Chinese historical civilization and the Chinese nation's ecological philosophy and aesthetic wisdom,this paper analyze the ecology of Chinese ancient roads and Chinese ancient road system which has the imprint of the development of the times and the strong breath of life.It proposes development models and strategies for how China's greenway planning and design will adapt to Chinese cultural context and geographical identity,and how to combine multidisciplinary development and progress.The case studies of greenway network in Pearl River Delta and the ancient post road development in Guangdong is deeply discussed in this paper.We look forward to more and better greenways in China in the new era bringing health,safety,the return of happiness and freedom of the heart to the Chinese.
