With the development of oil and gas drilling technology and computer information technology,Geosteering While Drilling(GWD)and Logging While Drilling(LWD)represent the highest level of drilling and logging technology in current world,and research in related areas is the forefront and focus of oil and gas exploration and development.The western countries still dominate this field,but their technical blockade and product monopoly post a serious problem.From the“11th Five-Year Plan”,China has put complex oil and gas reservoir exploration and development and geosteering while drilling technology in the list of “major national science and technology projects”,focusing on breakthrough in key technologies in this field.The goal is to master the core technology of complexoil and gas reservoir exploration and development and develop hardware and software for GWD and LWD and other technologies independently,which allows us to break the international monopoly,meet the needs of complex oil and gas exploration,significantly reduce the cost of domestic oil and gas field development,hence provide technical support for China’s energy strategy.GWD and LWD are advanced integrated technologies developed on traditional drilling and logging technology.GWD and LWD are applications of multidisciplinary technologies involving detection instruments,data transmission and storage,data processing,and intelligent decisionmaking.Advanced computer and communication technologies play an extremely important role in GWD and LWD.The 3D visualization technology,which integrates and visualizes a variety of objects and data obtained during oil and gas exploration and development,could be used to more intuitively understand the process of drilling and measurementas well as the geological properties that drill bits encounter.Also,it can be used to interpret and analyze more scientifically various geologic data of target area to provide better decision and support for production.Web services-based software architecture is a flexible and scalable application architecture that can support change on demand better.Organization,storage and visualization of drilling engineering data,visualizationand interpretation of LWD data and geological objects encountered during drilling are the core of geosteering while drilling technology.Research in this area and its application has important theoretical and practical significance.Based on in-depth research on the development of domestic and international technologies,products,tools and software of GWD,LWD,Web Service and 3D visualization etc,we conducted in-depth research of geosteering while drilling process and its key technologies.Research areas include collection and representation of various data in GWD and LWD,modeling principle of key objects including logging curve,borehole model,seismic model and geological model.Moreover,research focuses on application of advanced computer technology,especially 3D visualization methods and the service-oriented software development,in the GWD and LWD system.Finally,multi-source information visualization while drilling is designed and implemented based on Web service.The exploratory and pioneering work of thesis mainly includes:(1)A data platform solution based on cloud computing technology was proposed for multi-source data collection,transmission,analysis and storage in the process of drilling.The scheme adopted the distributed parallel architecture of cloud storage,which is compatible with various data formats.Appropriate data transmission mode could be selected to achieve real-timeadaptive transmission of information to ensure remote transmission efficiency and quality.(2)Combining cutting edge computer technology with the application of oil and gas exploration and development,a Web service-based LWD information visualization solution was proposed.A five-layer Web services-based LWD information visualization system framework was designed,and detailed implementation of two-dimensional and three-dimensional visualization and other public function services was given.(3)To improve the lack of realism of wellbore trajectory using current visualization method,a three-dimensional wellbore trajectory visualization method was proposed and implemented.A wellbore model was built using well trajectory data,and wellbore visualization while drilling was implemented.(4)Various LWD data formats and multiple filtering and image filling methods were analyzed to implement three-dimensional visualization of well trajectory dependent logging curve.Logging information and wellbore model were integrated using imaging principles,leading to realistic visualization and roaming.(5)SEGY format seismic data and GRDECL format geological model data were analyzed to optimize data processing and visualization algorithm.Three-dimensional visualization of seismic data and geological data for drilling was implemented.(6)Quality of service(QoS)of Web service was assessed.With the implementation of visualization while logging service,its QoS attributes were described,assessment methods for safety and usability were established and improved toguarantee reliability of the visualization application system.Thethesis is innovative in Web service-based system architecture,three-dimensional formation property integrated wellbore visualization,optimization of geological model visualization algorithm,multi-dimensional Web service security evaluation,ranking and standard value based QoS comprehensive evaluation,etc.The well-designed system prototype was implemented based on open source platform,which is flexible in structure and easy to scale.The functionality and methods were applied in the major national science and technology projects-“Enhanced Oil Recovery Ratio Technology in Ultra High Water Cut Stage of Shengli Oilfield” as well aspractical production of Shengli Oilfield.The technology has achieved the efficacy and functionality of foreign software systems.
