A Study On The Trade And Financial Activities Of Yanchi(1936-1945)

People overlooked the contribution of marignal earas to modern Chinese revolution history since most of the study has put emphasis on geographic ‘front line' and specific leaders. In fact, not as marginal as its location characteristics, marginal areas played a role during the long revolution history in modern China.Sanbian area, a part that easy to be neglect in geographical study, used to be an essential part of Shan-Gan-Ning Border Region. Documents specialize the lack of deep research and classification aiming at Sanbian area from the mainstream. As a concept in history, the economic activities in Sanbian area plays a pivotal role in the modern Chinese revolution. The regional economic center: Yanchi, which is located in Ningxia province, played a not negligible role in the revolution background.The development of salt industry in Yanchi break the economic blockade of the Kuomintang and make sure government of border region can stay put through severe economic crisis. Salt industry, which serve as the pillar of the economy in war time, is also an important material that balance price of commodities and stabilize the financial market. The three treasures of Sanbian(Sheep, liquorice and fur) improve life of people and the troops, help them fighting against drought. They are also sold outwards, increased the financial revenues of the border region. Besides, Yanchi implement monetary policy, such as issuing and selling of nation-saving government bonds, issuing border region currency, which not only raise the funds required for the Anti-Japanese War, but also confront with legal tender, promoting the development of both industry and agriculture. By all these means, Yanchi support the national anti-japanese effectively.During the Revolution in China, economic activities in Sanbian area not only guarantee the basic life of people, but also provides with strong logistical support at the same time. To a certain extent, Sanbian area plays an important role in saving the Chinese nation from subjugation and ensure its survival, which makes the Chinese out of trouble and win the final victory. Today, the Yanchi people continue keeping their fine tradition, being active in the field of finance and business throughout the ningxia region.Study of economic history in Sanbian area not only has important academic significance, but also has vital strategic reference value to the new situation of the development of the western region and ‘One Belt and One Road' construction. The purpose of this paper is to study in geographical location of Yanchi, as a representation of Sanbian area, through a large number of periodical publications. This essay will also try to describe economic activities in Yanchi as the center of Sanbian, discuss its important role in the Chinese revolution, and add new data for the research of regional economic history.
