Research On Regional Innovation Effects Of R&D Clusters And Knowledge Spillovers

Based on the theory of knowledge spillover,this paper studies the impact and function of R&D clusters and their knowledge spillovers effects on regional innovation development,with a perspective that R&D clusters are in nature clusters of value chains oriented from research and development activities.Multinational companies have been carrying out overseas R&D investment,consolidating the layout of the global R&D network,and spotlighting R&D in international competition.The spatial stickiness of knowledge has an impact on the location choice of multinational companies.Some areas with a rich stock of knowledge have clustered R&D,and witness the growth of start-ups and spin-offs.In the complex and expensive R&D innovation process,a single firm finds itself with the limited resources and cannot distribute the resources into all the technical and organizational activities.Therefore,there is a need for division of labor and coordination among enterprises.Core competitive advantage in a specific field is the foundation for a business participating into division of labor.As most enterprises are unable to have advantages in all areas,division of labor allows participants to learn from each other,complement with each other.The result is the formation of value chain that centered on innovation.The efficiency out of the innovation value chain is much higher than that of the independent enterprise 's innovation.The R&D based value chain reflects the nature of division of labor and the derived economic benefits distribution system.Division of labor is not only important reason for the higher efficiency in R&D clusters,but also an important channel for knowledge spillovers.Based on the above reasons,this disertation chooses the value chain as the researching perspective and highlights the fundamental role of division of labor in promoting the formation and development of R&D cluster and its knowledge spillover effects.R&D cluster is the aggregation of innovation value chain.The higher innovation efficiency of R&D cluster ascends the output level of regional innovation,and the knowledge spillover effect enhances the vitality of regional innovation,and sharpens the sensitivity for direction of innovation development.Therefore,the dissertation focuses on how R&D clusters and its knowledge spillover effects influence the regional innovation development,and conduct a systematic research on China's current R&D cluster and knowledge spillover effect,and discusses their influences and roles in the development of China's regional innovation.The major parts of the research include three parts.Part I focus on the how the R&D Clusters have effects on regional innovation development.Part II:Study on the Impact of Knowledge spillovers effects on regional innovation;Part III:Study on the impact of R&D clusters and spillovers effects on regional innovation.The above core parts,as well as the main content of the dissertation,are consisted of chapter three,chapter four,chapter five,chapter six and seven.The study of the core problems is carry out by using theoretical argumentation,case analysis,quantitive research.Chapter seven focus on the construction of empirical model and test with sample data.The study and the empirical test reveal that R&D clusters and their spillovers effects have very significant influence on regional innovation development.R&D clusters lead to the aggregation of innovating resources,thus actively promote the progress of regional innovation.The role knolwdge spillovers play are complex:specialzaiton negatively influence the regional innovation;diversity has no remarkable impact;international spillovers effects are significant and actively promote the innovation;Porter spillovers effects are strong and active.However,R&D clusters and knowledge spillovers have varied impact on different regions.In the eastern areas and the three economic circle regions,the impact are not significant;while in the middle and western regions,as well as the three economic circle regions,the impact are strong and remarkable.The reasons behind maybe are the followings:eastern areas have a better innovation base than the inner land areas,and innovations are more extended into very industries.While in contrast,R&D clusters do not have obvious higher efficiencies than other industries in the easter areas,so the spillovers effects are restrained.In inner land areas,the general innovation level are low and weak,so the R&D clusters work out spillovers to the regions.The findings in the dissertation provide suggestions and references in the search of regional innovation development path and model.R&D clusters and their knowledge spillovers can upgrade the efficiency level of the reginonal innovation.To promote the regional innovation,it is important to nurture the development of R&D clusters,and encourage the allocation of innovative resourcs into R&D,encourage the business to improve the specialization and core competitivenesses.The ascending of enterpricses status in industry chain and higher economic rewards are actualized through specializations;and the R&D oriented value chain with division of labors is useful in developing spillovers effects and improving regional development.
