Economic Study Of Wild Vegetable Germplasm Resources In Hainan Island

Crop germplasm resources are the most fundamental material basis for human survival and development, and the genetic source of the crops' improvement. Conservation and utility of germplasm resources directly related to the sustainable development of agriculture. Agricultural industry would not get development without germplasm resources. Hainan is the only tropical province in China, on the one hand, Hainan is lack of vegetables in summer and autumn season, because there is no high heat resistance variety which is suitable for cultivation in tropical areas, the average self-sufficiency rate is only66%; on the other hand, Hainan has much tropical wild vegetable varieties with higher nutrition?better taste?good economic return that are not utilized well. It is an urgent problem need to be solved, that is how to protect?develop and take use of these germplasm resources of tropical wild vegetable, to provide the market with better vegetable products, to fill the vacancy, and to get better economic profit.Current research pays more attention to the biological characteristics of wild vegetable. This paper focuses on the economic perspective for the first time under the above background. The theory basis of this research includes:germplasm resource science, resource economics, industrial economics, and regional economics. Basing on a comprehensive grasp of the distribution and development status of Hainan wild vegetable germplasm resources, this study aims to make systematic and all-round analysis over links of production, consumption, marketing, economic value, development potential and industrializations by theoretical studies and empirical analysis, qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis, focusing on the empirical analysis by using statistical analysis and quantitative analysis methods, combining field research and questionnaire investigation, graphical analysis, and the use of econometric model analysis method. Finally, suggestions of industrial development strategy and sustainable use of resources are proposed in this study.The conclusions of this study contain:(1) Hainan island is rich in wild vegetable germplasm resources, and has plenty of varieties, reaching more than100kinds with less used;this paper collects144kinds, which only30varieties are commonly used, and they are fresh-based and low utilization.(2) Hainan wild vegetable has high nutritional value, high health care value and high breeding value, which could be developed as a supplement vegetable in Hainan during summer and autumn season.(3)There is a high degree of consumer recognition on wild vegetables and market demand, more than83%of those investigators have a willingness to buy, but they are early adopters.(4) There are good prospects for market consumption and high economic value of wild vegetables. Research shows that each year the direct value is34,200yuan per mu, the develop value is6769yuan per mu; but there is lack of domesticated improved variety, only a few can be planted in large scale such as asparagus pea and Sauropus androgynus.(5) Hainan wild vegetables development is still in the forming stage,we should take the path of industrialization to develop it, adopting appropriate organization model in order to further promote the development of the wild vegetable industry, such as the model "company+base+peasant household".(6) Government's support for foundation work is prerequisite for sustainable development and industrialization of Hainan wild vegetable germplasm resources.In summary, these studies will undoubtedly have important theoretical and practical significance, and will fill the research gaps about economics, sustainable utilization and industrialization of wild vegetable germplasm resources. Finally, this study puts forward to some scientific strategies and constructive suggestions, including conducting investigations to find out the real situation,encouraging basic research on germplasm resources; formulate support policies and orderly development; industrialization, intensive oriented, sub-level development; attach importance to the protection and sustainable development; rational development, improve utilization levels.
