Scientific data is important information resource,and key information to support scientific research.Scientific data has important scientific research value,the same as academic papers.Scientific data can supplement results published in the form of paper,help users understand the whole process of scientific research more clearly.Also,it can be used to reproduction and falsification of study,and takes collected scientific data as as a starting point to continue research.The sharing of scientific data can reduce duplication of research,save costs of data collection,preservation,and maintenance costs,to avoid the waste of resource construction,but also further enhance the value of the government financial investment for research activities.The organization of scientific data is a prerequisite for scientific data sharing,retrieval and utilization.Metadata can play an important role in description,organization,information retrieval and discovery.Metadata can be used to describe the characteristics and forms of scientific data,and is an important tool for organizing scientific data resources.There are various metadata formats for describing scientific data resources due to differences in scientific data resource institutions,resource subjects,resource types,and resource use purpose,The diversity of metadata prevents users from getting scientific data resources in one stop,and is inconvenient to be used to search,access and use resources.Therefore,it is the main research questions to solve the problem through the appropriate methods of metadata interoperability.In this paper,metadata standards of scientific data in the field of earth science are chosen,and metadata interoperability methods are studied,Which can provide reference for realization of metadata interoperability of scientific data in other fields.This article contains a total of eight parts,specific content is as follows:Chapter 0 IntroductionIt introduces the background and significance of research in this chapter,as well as research status and commentary at home and abroad.The object,content and method are cleared in this research,as well as the research difficulty and the innovation of this article.Chapter 1 Related concepts and theoretical basis.This section expounds related concepts of scientific data,metadata and scientific data metadata,geographic information metadata,metadata interoperability,and geoscience.It explores the theory of knowledge organization,the theory of userinformation behavior,the system theory,information resource value-added utilization,information resource sharing theory,which support metadata interoperability of scientific data.Chapter 2 The necessity and feasibility analysis of metadata interoper-ability of scientific dataThe necessity and feasibility of metadata interoperability of scientific data are analyzed in this chapter.The necessity includes:diversity of metadata standards makes exchange of metadata difficult;difference between metadata standards is main problem of metadata interoperability;metadata interoperability is the foundation of digital resource integration.Feasibility is that continuous improvement of metadata functions is the reason for using metadata to achieve interoperability,as well as the development of metadata interoperability technology and support provided by practical results.Chapter 3 Metadata interoperability method and its applicability analysisBased on the existing research results,the framework and level of metadata interoperability method are established.The level of metadata interoperability method is divided into three levels:semantics,grammar and structure,and each level and its applicability are analyzed.Finally,the application of metadata interoperability in scientific data is discussed.Chapter 4 Selection and realization of metadata interoperation methods of scientific dataMetadata standards of scientific data and appropriate interoperability methods are selected in the field of geoscience.Then interoperability between metadata are realized.This chapter first discusses selection of scientific data metadata,and clarifies core metadata elements,their semantics and characteristics of four kinds of metadata which include ISO 19115-1:2014,Australia New Zealand Land Information Council Metadata,Geographic Information Metadata,NREDIS Information Sharing Metadata Content Draft,as well as elements and their semantics of DIF,CSDGM and Geographic Information Metadata.Then interoperability methods are selected.The author chooses the mapping between the two,the intermediate format mapping,RDF-based approach to achieve the mapping between the metadata,based on conceptual framework approach,and realizes the interoperability between metadata at the semantic level,and puts forward the idea of implementing metadata interoperation method based on ontology.Chapter 5 Application of metadata interoperability methods:selection and comparison of metadata standards of scientific data in the field of Earth Science.The author collects and selects 9 kinds of metadata standards which are from Marine Geology Data Archive of National Centers for Environmental Information?Cornell University Geospatial Information Repository.Global Change Master Directory?Geothermal Data Repository?Interdisciplinary Earth Data Alliance?The World Data Center for Remote Sensing of the Atmosphere?China Earthquake Data Center?The Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office?National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of National Centers for Environmental Information,and compares them from the number of metadata elements,the level of metadata,the content of metadata and semantic detail degree of metadata elements.Chapter 6 Metadata interoperability methodology application:Ontology construction for realization of metadata interoperability of scientific data in Earth ScienceThis chapter selects 9 kinds of scientific data metadata collected in the fifth chapter as research object.Connotation of ontology,process of ontology construction and application of ontology are expounded.Chapter 7 ConclusionThrough research of this paper,the following conclusions are drawn:The limitations of this study are expounded,as well as prospects for future research.Metadata interoperability of scientific data is necessary and feasible;Metadata interoperability methods apply to the field of scientific data;Ontology is better to achieve semantic interoperability for scientific data metadata;Achieving metadata interoperability of scientific data in geoscience based on ontology can provide reference for other areas.
