The rudiment of British higher vocational education began in the 14th century and gradually came into shape with the development of economic society.However,its development wasn't in accordance with the progress of the industrial revolution because of the inveteracy of its historical cultural tradition and value orientation of elite education,and it didn't fulfill its correspondence with the World Factory.Instead,it was neglected by the mainstream society and stayed at the edge of education system.It is not until post second world war when facing the predicaments of its declining situation and its disadvantage in international competition and the highlights of its social problems,British government and the mainstream society awoke in reflection and gradually realized the important supporting effect of higher vocational education and the improvement of national skill level on the development of economic society.Therefore,a series of supportive policies and reform measures were pushed out and promoted the development of British higher vocational education in reforms,with the continuous adjustments and constant improvement of the development progress of British society during the 70 years after the second world war,and finally came into shape with distinctive features.This thesis,taking the period from post war to now as its research field and the symbolic events during the reform and development of British higher vocational education as its important basis,displays the four evolution stages of British higher vocational education from restoration and reconstruction,reform and innovation,adjustment and optimization to new system construction,and makes a further study on the four stages and thus clearly reveals the historical tracks of the reform and development of post-war British higher vocational education,based on historical systematization and cohesion.When exploring each stage,the British higher vocational education is firstly put under the background of then economic society,from its motivation to concrete practice,and finally its features,influences,significance and drawbacks of its reform and development are judged and analyzed.The thesis further focuses on and analyzes the core problems of correlations between British higher vocational education and relations between general education and vocational education,government regulation,financial guarantee and qualifications,and thus concludes and highlights its reform,development and accretion of over 70 years,main features and advanced experiences of standardization of qualifications,standardization of management,layering of skill cultivation,integration of quality guarantee and British higher vocational education.At last,based on the history and status quo of our country's higher vocational education,centred on the strategic task of speeding the construction of modern vocational system,it puts forth some countermeasures and suggestions on how to push forward the reform and development of our country's higher vocational education through the following three aspects:optimizing system structure,promoting transformation and development,and strengthening support.
