Just as the key to quality of education is the quality of faculties,the qualities of faculties in primary and secondary schools have a direct effect on the future and hope of a nation and its people.Immediate and sustainable development of its faculties is a practical issue every school must face.Doubtlessly,the top of the academic pyramid,namely specials-honor teachers,provide examples of success.Their paths to success are a story of success which can be learned and studied.The search for a pattern of how outstanding teachers develop can start from the characteristics of these special-honor teachers.As a teaching honorary system unique to China,special-honor teacher has been in officially implemented for over 30 years.This system has played a huge part in inspiring and fostering passion and ethics of teachers across our country.As the embodiment of the teaching morals,model of nurturing people,and experts on teaching,special-honor teachers are leading pioneers of the teaching profession and life objectives of a great number of teachers.Among them,the special-honor biology teachers in Jiangsu Province is a force that cannot be overlooked in academia field.The aim of this dissertation is to analyze and refine the group characteristics of special-honor teachers in biology of Jiangsu Province,summarize their individual characteristics,analyzes the inside and outside factors and the mechanism of the formation of special-honor teachers.On the research methods,our research is carried out on both a quantitative and qualitative basis and an analysis from the two angels of the characteristics and influence factors.On the research idea,first of all,based on known research both domestic and abroad and after systematic combing the theoretical contribution through development theories on the teaching profession,this dissertation develops hypotheses on the research questions,then make a research plan and prepare an interview outline,On one hand,three databases on special-honor teachers have been established by leveraging various resources including archives and the internet.Then we carried out the research plan,SPSS were applied to do statistics studies to these databases to gain insight into the development characteristics of special-honor teachers,on the other hand,we carried out in-depth interviews of 10 special-honor teachers,which generated over 200,000 words of interview record.We then coded,categorized,and summarized these records with Nvivo software.We further did exploratory research on characteristics of special-honor teachers and factors that influenced them.Finally,based on the research conclusions and the reality,the strategies of improving the training and management of special-honor teachers are put forward.Main findings of this research includes the following:1.The development cycle of special-honor teachers is long,whose distribution and constitution are complex and their research outcome is rich.On average,it takes 24 years for a biology teacher to get the accreditation of special-honor teacher from he/she first began teaching,with an average age of 45.6;special-honor teacher cycle is highly relevant to the senior title cycle;there is a remarkable difference between a male cycle and a female cycle,with a female cycle for special-honor teachers significantly shorter;the average first time for special-honor teacher to publish papers is 12 years into teaching,with the average number of thesis being 28;there is no significant difference between new generation of special-honor teachers and 10 of an earlier age.The average time for a special-honor teacher's paper to be reprinted by People's University for review material is 22 years,which is also highly relevant to special-honor accreditation.2.Analysis on qualitative materials reveal that special-honor biology teachers in Jiangsu Province commonly demonstrate the following attributes:academic curiosity,commitment,work ethics,and hard work.Professional attributes include extensive reading,outstanding professional writing skills,deep understanding of students,and solid teaching capabilities.In the eyes of special-honor teachers,additional attributes of biology teachers in Jiangsu Province should also include strong cultural background,the Jiangsu teaching philosophy of "brief,flexible,sophistication,and solid",as well as the disciplinary quality of a sensitivity to life itself.3.Key events of different stages of development and significant person are important factors for the development of special-honor teachers.There are also special external conditions on time and space,including time,schools,regions,and systems.The rich culture of Jiangsu gave breeds to the development of special-honor teachers.The development of special-honor teachers needs effective training,visionary guidance,precise peer interaction,sustained teaching reflection,and persistent behavioral changes.Study on development of special-honor teacher would benefit study on theories and practice of teacher education.This dissertation put forwards suggestions on improvement,especially in the areas of "life self-awareness",and "career planning".
