Zhu Xi's thoughts and complex of Buddhist Zen was formed under the influence of the social historical and cultural context,the regional environment of Fujian with thriving Buddhist Zen,and his growth environment with his family lineage studies,teachings and social intercourses filled with introducing Buddhism into Confucianism.For the connections between his literary thoughts and the Buddhist Zen,his literary system and layout theory and the unification awareness of the Zen Sect are well interconnected,in which his thought and purport of blending in and warding off the Buddhism within such notions as "essays come from truths" and "the heart and nature theory of Buddhist Zen"?"rhetoric for sincerity" and "Buddha arises from your own heart"?"perfect writing should naturally flows out" and his "rumination" theory in reception of literary works bore profound historical connections with such Buddhist ideas as "mindless","gradual practice","extrapolative enlightenment" and others.These demonstrate the relevance featured by the Neo-Confucianism as the bondage between Zhu Xi's literary thought and Buddhist Zen.Besides,Zhu Xi' commentaries on Buddhist Zen have rich literary ideas as his comments on Buddhist sutra are soaked with rich literary creative views,profound understanding on literary skills and the research perspectives for comparative literature,while his critique on Buddhist principles reveals his functional views on literature and the view on efforts for learning poetry.In the connections between his poetic creation and the Buddhist Zen,firstly,his chronicle in creating Buddhism-involved poetry clearly reveals the change of his mentality and its subtle relationship with the Buddhist Zen.Then,from the Buddhist Zen purport of Zhu Xi's poetry,he had some poems showing his fondness and attachment to Buddhism and others demonstrating a purport to promote Confucianism and warding off Buddhism.Besides,from the Buddhism words utilized in his poetry,his Buddhism-involved poetry are mainly categorized into four kinds,including utilizing the generic Buddhist words,the Buddhist concepts and terms,the Buddhist references and depicting matters with Buddhist flavor involving no Buddhist words.Tracing to the source of such words will uncover the Buddhist Zen culture and connotations in Zhu Xi's poetry.Lastly,from the perspective of aesthetics,in Zhu Xi's Buddhism-involved poetry are found two aspects including the artistic beauty in "Poetry in Thinking" and the cultural beauty of "Poeticized Thoughts".In the connections between his ancient writing and the Buddhist Zen,his books,miscellaneous writings,prefaces,postscripts,records and funeral literary forms involving Buddhism like eulogies,tomb inscriptions,inscriptions on tombstones before the grave and along the way of the grave,are interrelated in innumerous ways with the Buddhist Zen in such aspects as thoughts and contents,literary art,literature values and others.His quotation-type prose of Classified Dialogue of Master Zhu also shares close connections with the Buddhist Classified Dialogue of Master Zhu widely involves comments on the Buddhist Sutra,exposition and argumentation on Buddhist principles,critique on the folk customs of worshipping Buddha and others,Buddhism languageutilizes Buddhist references,Buddhist Zen Sect's enlightening cases,quotes and miscellaneous speeches and uses popular linguistic characteristics,peculiar linguistic styles,diverse metaphors,unique metaphorical objects,and contextualized language in face-to-face verbal teaching.
