Onthe Boundary Of Language

The 21 st century sees language research facing new questions as well as old,which boil down to the question of ―where is language‖,or ―being and language‖.This paper tries to find out a new perspective for ―what is language‖ by trying to answer ―where is language‖.There has been little questioning on ―where is language‖ in the history of philosophy,not even the scientific answer to ―where is language‖.This paper approximates this answerfirst byprobingintothe question of ―where is language?‖.This paper thenprovides an answer: ―Language is in the boundary‖ as well as ―language is boundary‖.In answering ―where is language‖,this paper inquires into three basic questions: what is language,what is the faculty of language and what is the nature of grammar.It inquires into three aspects: the ideological origin of the boundary of language,its attributes from the microscope,the intermediate scope and the macro scope,and thus the methodology of language boundary.It proposes that boundary is the unity of three dimensions:language,knowledge and subjectivity,which is implicative of a new idieology for language,knowledge and subjectivity.Taking the whole universe into consideration,this study proposes that language,as a hierarchical being,is not unique to human,being a basic attribute of boundary.Thus the UG of HL is part of Universe Grammar,which is characteristic of its own hierarchy of grammar and boundary conditions.The boundary of language alienates the natural grammar from the social grammar,leading to the unification of confronting grammatical theories with separate advantages.This study also inquires into the boundary movement of all levels as well as some practical questions of the synchronous and diachronical nature of language,the boundary between word and sentence,foreign language education,speech perception and production,and the human-machine translation boundaries.This way,the studies of language boundary initiate the ―where is‖ paradigm beyond the ―what is paradigm‖ in philosophy,establish the boundary theory for linguistics,and find an effective way to settling linguistic problems.Therefore,we have found the home for language: boundary,just as Heidegger found the home for being: language,and thus the cyclic nature of being.
