Sentence structure can be analyzed both from the perspective of forms ad functions. According to former research findings, most of them focused on studying sentences from the angle of forms. Different from them, this dissertation aims to get a full view of the Chinese sentence patterns and reorganize them. Besides, it studies Chinese sentences from the non-traditional viewpoint of construction and chunk. Classifying sentences by semantics, it targets to construct a systematic framework of Chinese functional sentence patterns. It is expected that in accordance with the analytic method of semantics controlling and forms hampering, interpreted sentence patterns can be not only sensed their semantics, but also discovered how they are categorized according to their various forms. In order to fulfill its task, this dissertation extends its analysis in three parts. The introduction with reference to the current researches on Chinese sentence patterns, elaborates the researching purposes and researching value, presents theories and techniques and explains the research framework. On a macroscale, it introduces the declarative sentences, interrogative sentences and imperative sentences. The body firstly discusses the declarative sentences, the most important one in all functions of language, because it is natural for human beings to inform others of what they have already learned. It places particular emphasis on the semantic summary of those included in every chunk instead of listing varying form marks in analytical formula. In the body the objects of declarative sentences are classified into declarations about objective and subjective worlds. The latter is considered to be the mapping of the former on the ground that the objective world comes into the subjective world through language. Therefore, when discussing the declarative function, this dissertation covers the subjectivity included in sentences of this sort. The body then develops around interrogative sentences. Since human beings variably feel curious about the outside world, they inquire people surrounding them. However, distinguishing from the declarative sentences, interrogative sentences are adopted for information. This dissertation, from the perspective of problematic area, classifies interrogative sentences into sentences asking about element of sentences and contents included in sentences themselves. Questions around the former are further divided into questions for single element and some parts. Among all question signals available for interrogative sentences, words for interrogative marks, interrogative format, modal particles and interrogative mood are mainly analyzed. The next part of the body covers imperative sentences. Compared with the former two, imperative sentences possess more illocutionary force, so they are more demanding in the choice of verbs. As for the meanings conveyed, interrogative sentences seem easier than the formers, because these sentences are based on four elements, the speaker, the imperative mark, the receiver and the imperative content. On the basis of different degrees of instructions, the dissertation try to sort out interrogative sentences, categorize them into sentences to present warns, to give orders, to provide suggestions and to request and analyze them respectively. Finally, these three sentence patterns are summed up. It concludes that contents among them are discrete in function, while sentences are not so. It is found that all functional sentence patterns are interrelated in semantics and brink areas do exist among different functional sentences. This interrelationship can be revealed by some atypical ones of some functional sentences since atypical sentences have merely one or two features of one sentence structure, making it possible to be interrelated to other sentences. This interrelationship, especially among the three sentences above, is clarified from such perspectives as the subjectivity and the degree of doubt.
