How to evaluate the value of design and design industry is an issue that needs urgently to be solved around the world. It’s not only an important academic issue of design disciplines, but also an economic practical issue of governments. Evaluating design reasonably and accurately, will promote the innovation development of China’s industrial design industry, guide enterprises to carry out better design strategies, help countries to formulate macro-industrial restructuring policies, enhance the overall level and value of design industry in China, and promote "Made in China" upgrade to "Designed in China".This paper analyzed the existing evaluation methods of four samples related to evaluating design in detail. Then introduced some related knowledges and methods in economics and statistics disciplines. On this basis, this paper finded out some basic methods of calculating the value of design, and then seted up three evaluation models for Enterprises which depended on design, professional design companies and design industries to evaluate the value of design.There are some important viewpoints of this paper. Firstly, this paper introduced the multiple regression method and the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method into the methods of evaluating design. Trying to solve three major problems:the related degrees between design and different types of enterprises, the economic value that design created for enterprises, and the quantified method of the social value of design. And for the first time it takes the design’s externalities into account. Secondly, this paper formed a total formula about the significant economic value of design and the potential social value of design. It’s more objective, scientificly, rationally and perfectly than other existing methods, both in theoretical levels and practical levels. And it’s more feasible and replicable.More importantly, this paper proved that by adding "design investment","R&D investment" and "marketing investment" into the economic statistical indicators, coupled with the evaluation methods above, it’s possible to calculate the economic contribution rate of design industry.
